Our client, a well-established construction company in Delta, BC, is seeking a Controller to lead their accounting function and support the continued growth of the business. Reporting directly to senior leadership, this role will oversee the accounting department, provide financial insight to support decision-making, and ensure accurate financial reporting across the organization.
- Lead the accounting department, providing mentorship and oversight to a small accounting team.
- Own the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare financial statements, cash flow forecasts, WIP schedules, and other financial reports to support business planning.
- Review and approve GST, payroll remittances, and other regulatory filings.
- Manage project accounting activities, including progress draws, divisional invoicing, holdbacks, subcontractor accounting, and change orders.
- Prepare year-end working papers and coordinate with external accounting advisors.
- Monitor accounts receivable and payable processes, identifying opportunities for improved efficiency and cash flow management.
- Support the implementation and optimization of accounting systems and internal processes.
- Provide proactive financial analysis and recommendations to ownership and senior management.
- CPA designation is required.
- Previous Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accountant experience within the construction or development industry.
- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including holdbacks, progress billing, WIP reporting, subcontractor accounting, and change orders.
- Experience managing month-end and year-end financial reporting processes.
- Strong knowledge of cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
- Experience leading and mentoring accounting staff.
- Proficiency with ERP systems; experience with Sage 300, Sage Intacct, or similar systems is considered an asset.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and drive process improvements.
- Competitive salary ranging from $100,000 - $120,000.
