Material Handling Support Technician

Introduction
We are currently seeking a Material Handling Support Technician to support operations at an industrial facility. Reporting to the Production Leader, this role is responsible for supporting material handling activities within loading and wash barn operations. The position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable handling of products, including railcar operations, packaging, and sampling to support quality and production requirements.
Responsibilities
Material Handling & Rail Operations
· Load and unload railcars in alignment with production and logistics schedules
· Perform hopper car washing and preparation activities
· Collect run samples for laboratory analysis
· Ensure timely product handling to meet customer delivery requirements
· Coordinate with Logistics to meet established schedules and timelines
Health, Safety & Compliance
· Follow all company safety policies and procedures at all times
· Participate in safety meetings, audits, and follow-up actions
· Maintain housekeeping standards across all operational areas
Packaging Operations
· Follow standard operating procedures and troubleshoot packaging equipment as needed
· Prepare corrugated boxes manually and complete filling, capping, and labelling activities
· Collect and submit product samples for quality control testing
· Operate forklifts to move packaged materials to warehouse storage
· Maintain accurate production records, logs, and reports
· Complete SAP and SAP-OSEM entries for packaging production data
Material Flow & Yard Support
· Maintain cleanliness of material handling areas, including washing, sweeping, and waste management
· Clean process areas such as waterways, ditches, and ponds
· Collect quality samples from finished goods in railcars
· Manage waste and recycling materials across operational areas
· Ensure loading barns are stocked with required materials (e.g., cable seals, additives)
· Maintain accurate operational logs and documentation
Requirements
· High School Diploma or equivalent required
· Experience with rail yard operations, railcar loading/unloading, or packaging considered an asset
· Forklift training and operating experience preferred
· Valid G driver’s license required
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and SAP is an asset
· Strong communication and problem-solving skills
· Experience with quality control systems (e.g., ISO standards) is an asset
· Safety training and certifications (e.g., WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, PPE, spill response) considered an asset
· Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to manage competing priorities effectively
· Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
