For more than 35 years, Amsted has helped homeowners bring their renovation and custom home projects to life through a fully integrated design-build approach. From the first conversation through design, budgeting, construction, and warranty, our team works together to deliver a thoughtful, well-planned experience for every client.
We're looking for an experienced Estimator to join our team.
About the Role
The Estimator plays a key role in developing projects that are complete, coordinated, and ready for construction.
Working closely with our Sales, Design, and Construction teams, you'll develop budgets, review drawings, coordinate trade pricing, and identify gaps or challenges as designs evolve. Your work helps ensure every project moves into construction with a clear scope, an accurate budget, and the information needed for a successful build.
This role requires strong residential construction knowledge, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to think through how a project will be built, not simply what it will cost.
What You'll Do
As an Estimator, you will:
- Develop and maintain detailed project budgets throughout the design process.
- Break projects into complete scopes of work that accurately reflect the proposed design.
- Review drawings and project documentation to identify missing information, constructability concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
- Work closely with the Development team to ensure scope, budgets, and construction requirements remain aligned as designs evolve.
- Obtain, review, and analyze trade partner pricing, ensuring scopes are complete, accurate, and comparable.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective trade partners.
- Identify project risks, scope gaps, and potential construction challenges before construction begins.
- Participate in project meetings, job showings, and forensic inspections as required.
- Represent the construction perspective throughout project development, helping ensure designs are practical and ready to build.
- Lead the estimating handoff into Construction, ensuring budgets, scopes, trade coverage, and project documentation are complete and coordinated.
What You'll Bring
We're looking for someone who brings sound construction knowledge, practical thinking, and a collaborative approach.
You'll have:
- 5+ years of construction estimating experience
- Extensive knowledge of residential construction methods, sequencing, and trade coordination.
- Experience preparing detailed construction estimates and project budgets.
- The ability to interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Exceptional organization and attention to detail.
- A proactive, accountable, and solution-oriented approach.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong computer skills, with demonstrating estimating software experience. Experience with BuilderTrend an asset.
- A valid driver's licence with a clean driving record.
Why Amsted?
At Amsted, you'll be joining a team that works closely together from the earliest stages of a project through to completion. Designers, project coordinators, estimators, construction managers, and trade partners all contribute to delivering projects that are thoughtfully planned, well coordinated, and built to a high standard.
We value professionalism, collaboration, continuous improvement, and taking pride in the work we do. Just as importantly, we believe good relationships are the foundation of a successful workplace. We support one another, share ideas, solve problems together, and enjoy what we do.
If you're looking for an opportunity to apply your experience as part of a collaborative, award-winning team, we'd love to hear from you. Please submit your resume and a cover letter, including your salary expectations, to Stephanie Haw.
