Our client, a manufacturing company located just outside of London, ON is looking for a Production Manager to join their team.
What you will do in this role:
- Direct daily operations of slaughter, fabrication, packaging, and order assembly.
- Align production with livestock supply, labour capacity, and sales priorities.
- Monitor workflow, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure customer orders are fulfilled accurately, on time, and with consistent quality.
- Supervise and mentor frontline supervisors, team leads, and production employees.
- Conduct daily floor walks to reinforce expectations, ensure accountability, and resolve barriers to productivity.
- Drive workforce efficiency through optimized scheduling, cross-training, and performance management.
- Promote a culture of ownership, safety, and respect.
- Collaborate with Sales, Procurement, and Livestock Supply on production scheduling.
- Translate sales orders into efficient cutting and packaging schedules.
- Support inventory planning, traceability, and product flow across production.
- Enforce CFIA, HACCP, and company food safety protocols across all production areas.
- Participate in pre-operational checks, sanitation verifications, and internal/external audits.
- Collaborate with QA to implement corrective actions and maintain accurate documentation.
- Track performance metrics (heads/hour, yield, MH/HD, cost/head) to assess operations.
- Investigate and address downtime, waste, and quality issues.
- Recommend and implement lean manufacturing initiatives and process improvements.
- Ensure adequate availability of livestock, packaging, and consumables.
- Monitor material consumption to reduce waste and enforce proper handling practices.
- Work with warehouse and maintenance teams to ensure material and equipment readiness.
- Provide daily and weekly performance updates to the Plant Manager.
What you will bring to the role:
- 5+ years in meat or food manufacturing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or operations leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of kill/cut/pack workflows; multispecies experience preferred.
- Familiarity with HACCP, CFIA, and food safety compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in production planning, performance metrics, and cost control.
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- ERP experience required; CSB knowledge is a strong asset.
- Work is performed primarily in a meat processing plant environment, including slaughter and fabrication floors.
- Exposure to cold, wet, humid, and noisy conditions.
- Work involves proximity to raw meat, blood, animal by-products, and sharp tools.
- Requires wearing appropriate PPE (hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots).
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet production demands.
