Nupqu Resource Limited Partnership (associated with Ktunaxa Enterprises Ltd.) is a growing First Nations–owned environmental consulting firm with offices in Cranbrook, Castlegar, and Fernie, BC. Nupqu provides environmental, biological, archaeological, forestry, contract management, and safety-related consulting services throughout the Ktunaxa Traditional Territory.
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented GIS Analyst to join our GIS & Technology Department. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Castlegar, BC, offering hands-on experience across all areas of GIS operations in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment.
The GIS Analyst will support Nupqu's GIS and RPAS operations, with a strong focus on GIS analysis, mapping, spatial data management, drone mission planning, and RPAS data processing. This role requires solid GIS technical skills and practical drone experience, including the ability to plan safe and compliant RPAS operations in accordance with Transport Canada regulations and Nupqu's internal safety procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
GIS & Spatial Data
- Prepare professional maps and spatial products for a variety of projects.
- Manage, organize, and maintain spatial datasets, geodatabases, and project files.
- Perform GIS analysis including overlays, buffers, routing, terrain analysis, and spatial classification.
- Support ArcGIS Online, web maps, Survey123, QuickCapture, and mobile GIS workflows.
- Conduct QA/QC on spatial data and mapping deliverables.
- Support the development and improvement of GIS standards and workflows.
RPAS / Drone Operations
- Plan and support RPAS missions, including flight planning, site assessments, airspace reviews, weather evaluations, hazard identification, and operational risk assessments.
- Ensure RPAS operations comply with Transport Canada regulations and Nupqu's internal safety procedures, SOPs, and Emergency Response Procedures.
- Prepare flight plans considering terrain, weather, airspace restrictions, battery management, emergency landing areas, crew roles, and project objectives.
- Operate RPAS where qualified and support field operations as Pilot or RPAS crew member.
- Complete pre-flight and post-flight inspections, equipment preparation, flight logs, and operational documentation.
- Process RPAS data into orthomosaics, DEMs, DSMs, point clouds, 3D models, and other mapping products.
- Maintain RPAS equipment, payloads, batteries, GNSS/RTK equipment, and associated records.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Required)
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geomatics, Geography, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Experience using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
- Valid Transport Canada Basic RPAS Pilot Certificate.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work

- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage competing priorities
- Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and grow your skills
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field sites
Preferred Qualifications
- Transport Canada Advanced RPAS Pilot Certificate.
- Restricted Operator Certificate – Aeronautical (ROC-A).
- Experience operating RPAS for commercial or professional applications.
- Experience planning and executing RPAS flight missions.
- Experience processing RGB and LiDAR datasets.
- Experience with LiDAR analysis and point cloud processing.
- Experience with Python scripting or GIS automation.
- Experience working with or interest in First Nations communities
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Combination of office-based GIS work and field-based RPAS operations.
- Field work may involve remote locations, uneven terrain, and varying weather conditions.
- Occasional travel within British Columbia may be required.
- Ability to lift and carry field and RPAS equipment as required.
