Purpose:
Reporting to the Materials Manager, the Shipper is primarily responsible for shipping, and handling of all outgoing parts, supplies, materials, equipment and product efficiently and on time. They will also be responsible for some receiving duties as required.
In addition to the responsibilities listed below, employees are also expected to complete other duties as required. All employees are expected to have familiarized themselves with the Health & Safety and Human Resources manuals, work in conjunction with all policies and procedures at Daltec, complete work as assigned to the best of their abilities, including their responsibilities as outlined below.
Key Position Responsibilities and Duties - will include, but not be limited to:
Operations
- Perform general physical activities in order to load, unload, sort and move shipments by hand or using material handling equipment
- Examine shipment contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices or orders to verify accuracy and quality of shipment
- May contact carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials
- Pack, seal and label materials to prepare for shipping
- Assemble containers and crates, record contents, pack goods to be shipped and affix identifying information and shipping instructions
- Photograph packaged and loaded product prior to leaving the Plant.
- Loading of goods from trucks
- Operate forklift, hand truck or other equipment to load, unload, transport and store goods
- Adhere to shipping and receiving policies/procedures, and regulatory compliance procedures
Health and Safety
- Keep work area clean and tidy.
- Follow all job specific processes and safety policies at all times.
- Contribute to a healthy and safe work environment for all employees.
- Report any accidents, injuries or unsafe working conditions to Management immediately.
Other Duties
- Maintenance and safety checks for forklifts.
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent.
- Must have valid Driver’s license and meet DCBM’s insurable standards and vehicle policy.
- Successful completion of forklift training which meets current legislative requirements.
- Overhead crane training an asset.
- Knowledge in heavy rigging and lifting of goods for shipments.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Experience in transportation size and weight limits.
- Ability to build crates, skids and protect goods properly for shipping.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Computer and data entry experience.
- Ability to work effectively unsupervised as well as collaborates within an active team.
Working Conditions:
- Works in a production environment where health and safety hazards and risk of injury are always present (temperature, noise, chemicals, machinery, moving vehicles).
- A standard forty-hour work week.7:30 am – 4:00 pm Mon-Fri.
- May be required to work some overtime hours to meet production obligations during specific periods of the business cycle, with tight deadlines.
- Must be able to manage frequent interruptions and multiple tasks daily.
- May deal with conflict and employee relations issues causing stress at times.
- Attention to detail and visual concentration required which may cause mental and physical strain.
- Spends a frequent amount of time standing and walking daily.
- Job requires the ability to kneel, bend at the waist and reach or push from the shoulders frequently.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
