The Position:
The Lead Technical Writer is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the Technical Writing function, with a primary focus on the development of Operations and Maintenance Manuals, Design Descriptions, and a broad range of business-critical documentation. This role serves as a key liaison between Eclipse Management, the Nuclear Technical Writing team, Project Management, and Engineering teams to ensure alignment, consistency, and quality across all documentation deliverables. The successful candidate will guide and mentor the technical writing team, establish best practices and standards, and drive continuous improvement while supporting the delivery of the Eclipse Vision and fostering the Eclipse Entrepreneurial Culture.
What You'll Do Here:
Technical
- Lead and support the development of technical publications for Eclipse Nuclear projects, ensuring documentation is accurate, complete, and aligned with project and customer requirements.
- Provide technical writing leadership and input to Applications, including documentation strategy, content requirements, effort estimates, and deliverable planning.
- Assess document audience, purpose, and end-user requirements, and guide the translation of complex technical information into clear, concise, and usable technical content.
- Lead the authoring and review of technical documents using design data such as requirements, specifications, calculations, FMEAs, reports, drawings, BOMs, and other project inputs.
- Oversee preparation of documents for customer submission and review, ensuring customer comments are dispositioned effectively while maintaining project scope, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain and reinforce document control practices, ensuring archives and project documentation are organized, consistent, and accessible.
- Lead updates to existing documentation based on customer feedback, project changes, technical inputs, and evolving requirements.
- Guide the development of supporting visuals, including technical illustrations and photography, to enhance clarity and usability of technical content.
- Monitor documentation milestones, proactively identify risks or constraints, and communicate status, priorities, and escalations to project stakeholders.
- Champion continuous improvement of Eclipse nuclear project documentation processes, with a focus on quality, consistency, efficiency, usability, and team capability
- Provide guidance and support to Marketing, Sales, Applications, and Service teams on technical documentation requirements, content standards, and customer-facing deliverables.
- Partner closely with Project Management, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and other technical stakeholders to align documentation deliverables with project objectives.
Project Execution
- Lead by example in ensuring all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Eclipse Automation Inc. Conduct Code.
- Promote and reinforce adherence to the Eclipse Project Operating Policy across documentation activities and project execution.
- Act as a positive representative of Eclipse and support the corporate Vision through professional conduct, accountability, and collaboration.
- Model and reinforce adherence to all Health and Safety rules and procedures.
- Foster a team culture that reflects the core values of the business and encourages quality, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Ensure documentation activities and deliverables align with applicable company Standards (ISO, N299 or NQA-1).
- Ensure customer-facing and internal documentation complies with Eclipse branding requirements and established communication standards.
- Serve as the primary liaison between cross-functional departments to align documentation requirements, resolve gaps, and support timely delivery of high-quality technical publications.
What We're Looking For:Experience & Skill Set:
- Strong knowledge of nuclear industry technical communication techniques, style conventions, and documentation standards.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with demonstrated proficiency in proofreading, editing, technical writing, and interviewing subject matter experts.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Word.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Self-motivated and able to lead by example with a positive, solutions-focused approach.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while balancing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain consistency, accuracy, and quality across multiple documents and projects.
- 3–5+ years of experience as a Technical Writer within the nuclear industry.
- Familiarity with nuclear plant layout, basic operations, equipment, and reactor characteristics.
- Familiarity with nuclear plant maintenance standards and tooling maintenance best practices.
- Familiarity with nuclear industry terminology and standard project document deliverables.
- Mechanical aptitude and an understanding of machinery dynamics, with the ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings.
- Electrical and instrumentation aptitude, including an understanding of machine control logic and the ability to read electrical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks, with the ability to manipulate models to create custom technical illustrations.
- CSA N299 training or basic familiarity is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with PLC programming and ladder logic used to control complex automated tooling and systems is considered an asset.
Travel:
- Expectation of travel is less than 10% of time, however this may be exceeded in exceptional circumstances to meet project needs.
Education:
Minimum requirement of a University Degree, Engineering Technologist/Technician college diploma, or Trades certification with technical field related work experience
