Underground Millwright / Hoist Millwright
Location: Remote Mining Sites – Manitoba and Northern Canada
Schedule: Rotation-Based (Site Dependent)

Position Summary
Millennium Mechanical Contracting is seeking experienced and motivated Underground Millwrights / Hoist Millwrights to join our growing team. Successful candidates will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and commissioning of underground mining equipment and hoisting systems while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
This position is ideal for individuals with underground mining experience who are comfortable working in shaft environments, ore handling systems, crushers, conveyors, pumping systems, and hoisting equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on underground mining equipment.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair hoists, skips, cages, loading pockets, and shaft infrastructure.
- Install, align, and commission mechanical equipment and systems.
- Maintain crushers, conveyors, feeders, pumps, piping systems, and material handling equipment.
- Complete shaft and hoist mechanical inspections and repairs.
- Perform rigging, lifting, and mechanical installations in underground environments.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and maintenance manuals.
- Complete detailed maintenance reports, inspection records, and work orders.
- Work closely with operations, engineering, and supervision to execute maintenance plans.
- Participate in shutdowns, construction projects, and emergency repairs as required.
- Follow all site-specific safety procedures, JHAs, SOPs, and applicable mining regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and company equipment.
Qualifications
Required
- Interprovincial Red Seal Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certification.
- Minimum 5 years of underground mining experience.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Strong knowledge of rotating equipment and mechanical systems.
- Experience with conveyors, crushers, pumps, material handling systems, and underground mobile equipment.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Assets
- Hoist Mechanic experience.
- Shaft maintenance and rehabilitation experience.
- Mine construction experience.
- Rigging and signalperson certification.
- CWB Welding Certification.
- Fall Protection Certification.
- Confined Space Certification.
- Elevated Work Platform Certification.
- Manitoba Hoist Operator or Hoist Mechanic experience.
- Underground Common Core or equivalent mining certifications.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work underground in varying environmental conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to work extended shifts and rotational schedules.
