Position: Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Advisor
Location: Edmonton, AB
We are looking for an energetic professional to join our Myshak Crane & Rigging (MCR) team on a full-time basis. The Myshak Group of Companies is an industrial & commercial crane supply company that provides both operated and bare crane equipment rentals serving the Western Canadian market. Based out of Acheson, we also offer a full line of site support equipment, crane mats as well as warehousing and transportation services.
As an HSE Advisor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of field personnel and the proper handling of equipment. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage safety protocols in a fast-paced environment.
As an HSE Advisor, you will be responsible for:
- Ensure that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices and procedures.
- Encourage and promote a safe work culture.
- Complete daily audits to ensure compliance with hours of service.
- Stay informed about relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
- Assist in ensuring the organization’s compliance with these regulations.
- Assist in the dissemination of safety information, policies, and procedures to employees.
- Maintain safety signage and communication boards.
- Collect and analyze HSE data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Manage and maintain HSE-related equipment and supplies, such as first-aid kits, safety ear, and emergency response materials.
- Provide advice related to health and safety matters, legislative requirements and best practices in the field and office.
- Create Job Hazard Analysis and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Emergency Response Plan (ERP).
- Review and provide guidance to employees on logbooks and field level hazard assessments.
- Conduct routine field inspections.
- Act as HSE representative in client meetings.
- Establish inspection schedules and participate and/or lead job site inspections, assign corrective action and report back to workers on inspection findings.
- Positively encourage and participate in a “Near Miss Reporting”.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Ensure weekly monitoring of manhours, ESA trends, and FLRA audits for AP to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Process orientation requests and conduct onsite orientations for new employees.
- Manage vehicle and vehicle pass requests to ensure proper authorization and tracking.
- Develop and deliver weekly safety meetings to promote safety awareness and compliance.
- Lead investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Contribute to AP audits by participating in the review and improvement process.
- Compile and submit monthly reports to track safety performance and compliance metrics.
- Coordinate and participate in emergency mock drills to ensure preparedness.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) field experience
- Formal HSE training or certification such as NCSO, Gold Seal, CRSP/CRST, HSE Diploma/Certificate, or equivalent
- This is a temporary project position with an anticipated end date in 2028, and candidates must be willing to commit to the duration of the project
- Strong proficiency with electronic systems, digital tools, and Microsoft Office applications
- Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications; candidates are expected to provide hourly wage expectations during the application process.
Asset Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and Safety Management Systems. Experience with eCompliance is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience developing and delivering safety meetings and toolbox talks
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of OH&S regulations and standards is a significant advantage.
Working Conditions:
- Travel to site will be required.
- Overtime may be required.
- The schedule will consist of four 10-hour workdays and one 8-hour workday each week.
