Science and Design Technology Laboratory Technician

St. Michaels University School (SMUS) is seeking a Science and Design Technology Laboratory Technician to join our dynamic Education, Technology and Design department. Reporting to the Middle School Science Lead and Director of Educational Technology, this position is responsible for maintaining Science and Applied Design, Science and Technology (ADST) learning spaces, and managing lab resources to foster a creative, safe learning environment for students. The role includes helping students fabricate their designs and supporting teachers in their classes and work.
Work Schedule:
Hours of work will be approximately 20 hours per week, with some flexibility in specific days and times.
Responsibilities include:
Assist and train students and teachers in using design lab and makerspace technology, including 3D printers, laser cutters, graphic presses, circuitry, and robotics.
Maintain and troubleshoot equipment, ensuring all devices are functional and safe for use.
Supervise equipment and tool use.
Monitor and improve lab safety protocols.
Maintain a clean and organized lab space.
Handle material inventory and procurement.
Support the fabrication of student work.
Support preparation for upcoming lessons, experiments, and Science Fair.
Qualifications:
High school diploma and working towards a degree or diploma in a field related to science and technology.
Minimum of one year of experience in an educational or technical support role.
Skilled in the operation, maintenance, and minor repair of tools and technical equipment.
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate.
Experience in handling, storing, and disposing of hazardous materials.
Knowledge of laboratory health and safety protocols.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and work closely with a team of professionals.
Salary Range:
Annual salary range: $20,000 - $30,000. This range reflects the prorated (0.50 FTE) salary.
Criminal Record Check:
Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
