Thompson Laboucan & Epp LLP is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and motivated Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our growing team. We are a busy law firm with a strong focus on serving Indigenous communities, organizations, businesses, and individuals throughout Alberta.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting our lawyers and clients while contributing to a collaborative and professional work environment.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and prepare legal correspondence and documents.
- Manage lawyer calendars, appointments, and deadlines.
- Open and maintain client files.
- Prepare court filings and legal documentation.
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, courts, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Assist with billing, file management, and administrative tasks.
- Conduct legal and corporate searches.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure files remain organized and up to date.
- Support lawyers in Indigenous law, litigation, corporate, real estate, wills and estates, and other practice areas as required.
Qualifications
- Legal Assistant or Paralegal diploma/certificate preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a legal environment preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal practice management software.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in Indigenous law or with Indigenous communities and organizations.
- Knowledge of Alberta court procedures and legal documentation.
- Experience with legal billing and file management systems.
