As a therapist at our clinic, you will provide therapy to teens and young adults across a variety of presenting concerns. Your caseload may include clients seeking support for anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationships, stress, life transitions, trauma, emotional regulation, and other mental health challenges.
While you will work with clients across many areas of mental health, we are specifically looking for a clinician who brings a strong passion and expertise in supporting high-performing teen athletes. This therapist will serve as a key resource within our practice for adolescent athletes and their families, offering both evidence-based therapy and mental performance coaching to help young athletes excel both on and off the field.
This position is ideal for someone who wants the variety of a general therapy caseload while becoming known for a specialized area of practice in youth athlete mental health.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual therapy to teens, young adults, and families across a range of mental health concerns
- Develop a specialty caseload of adolescent athletes (approximately ages 10–20)
- Deliver evidence-based mental performance coaching focused on:
- Confidence and self-belief
- Managing performance anxiety
- Mental resilience and emotional regulation
- Focus and concentration
- Motivation and goal setting
- Coping with mistakes and setbacks
- Managing pressure and expectations
- Identity beyond sport
- Returning to play following injury
- Support athletes experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, perfectionism, burnout, low self-esteem, stress, grief, or life transitions
- Partner with parents by providing guidance, coaching, and psychoeducation to help them effectively support their child's mental health and athletic development
- Facilitate parent sessions focused on communication, emotional support, healthy expectations, and navigating the demands of youth sport
- Collaborate with coaches and other professionals (when appropriate and with client consent)
- Develop individualized treatment plans and monitor client progress
- Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation
- Participate in clinical consultation, supervision, and ongoing professional development
- Contribute to workshops, presentations, or educational resources related to youth mental health, parenting, or sport performance (an asset)
Qualifications
Required
- Registered or licensed therapist in good standing with their professional regulatory college (e.g., Registered Psychotherapist, Registered Social Worker, Psychologist, or equivalent)
- Master's degree in counselling, psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline
- Experience providing therapy youth, and/or families
- Strong clinical assessment, treatment planning, and documentation skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
- A genuine interest in supporting adolescent development and mental well-being
Preferred
- Experience working with competitive or elite youth athletes
- Training or certification in Mental Performance Consulting, Sport Psychology, or Mental Performance Coaching
- Experience supporting athletes with:
- Performance anxiety
- Perfectionism
- Burnout
- Injury recovery
- Confidence challenges
- Sport-related identity concerns
- Experience facilitating parent coaching or family sessions
- Familiarity with CBT, ACT, DBT-informed interventions, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, or other evidence-based approaches
- Experience delivering workshops or group programming
