Work Description:
The Mitigation Technician is responsible for assisting in the restoration and clean-up of properties affected by fire, water, mold, and other environmental damage. This role involves both on site and off-site tasks, including the use of specialized equipment and safety procedures. The technician works under the supervision of a crew leader and follows established protocols to ensure efficient and safe mitigation practices.
- Perform cleaning of smoke – and fire-damage properties
- Conduct water clean-up (Category 1, 2 and 3)
- Perform mould remediation
- Complete Type 1 and Type 2 asbestos removal
- Assist with Type 3 asbestos removal (after certification)
- Board up damaged properties as required
- Pack and clean contents
- Move contents (on-site and off-site)
- Clean equipment and maintain shop cleanliness
- Assist the crew leader as instructed
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor
Requirements:
- Ability to lift, move, and carry heavy items
- Comfortable working in physically demanding environments (e.g., wet, smoky, dusty, confined spaces)
- Willingness to work in emergency situations, including evenings and weekends (when on call rotation applies)
- Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in cleaning and restoration tasks
- Ability to follow verbal and written instruction accurately
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safety and proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (if driving is required)
- Ability to pass background check (if required by clients or company policy)
- Willingness to pursue industry certification (e.g., IICRC, asbestos removal certifications)
- Prior experience in restoration, construction, or related field is an asset (but not always required)
Working Conditions:
- Flexible hours, with the possibility of evening work depending on emergencies and on-call schedule
- Frequent travel based on the location of incidents
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
