Our programs support teens and adults with autism and developmental disabilities to build meaningful, independent and healthy lives through individualized, evidence-informed programming.
Position Summary
The Health & Wellness Skill Facilitator is responsible for supporting participants in developing the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead healthy, active and independent lives. This role combines health and fitness, healthy living, cooking, social communication, recreation and independent living skills. The successful candidate will implement individualized and small-group programming under the guidance of a BCBA, RPT and other interdisciplinary team members.
Health, Wellness & Independent Living
- Facilitate individualized and small-group health, fitness and wellness programming.
- Teach safe and effective use of fitness equipment and recreation facilities.
- Demonstrate competency in kitchen safety, food preparation, meal planning and the use of common kitchen equipment.
- Coach participants to prepare meals and snacks as independently as possible using individualized teaching strategies.
- Support participants in planning healthy meals, grocery shopping, budgeting for food and making nutritious food choices.
- Teach food storage, kitchen organization, cleaning and safe food handling practices.
- Support participants in developing healthy routines including exercise, nutrition, hydration, sleep hygiene and personal wellness.
- Promote lifelong participation in physical activity and community recreation.
Social Communication & Community Participation
- Facilitate meaningful conversations, social interactions and group discussions.
- Coach participants in conversation skills, teamwork, friendship development and conflict resolution.
- Support participation in community recreation, volunteering and leisure activities.
- Promote self-advocacy, independence and participant choice.
- Create an inclusive, welcoming and respectful environment.
Program Implementation
- Implement individualized programs developed by supervising professionals.
- Collect data and complete accurate documentation.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and participate in meetings.
- Follow participant safety plans, behaviour support plans and emergency procedures.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized environment.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Kinesiology, Fitness & Health Promotion, Human Kinetics, Recreation & Leisure, Therapeutic Recreation, Developmental Services, Behavioural Science, Health Sciences, OTA/PTA or a related field.
- Experience supporting individuals with autism, developmental disabilities or diverse support needs.
- Experience leading fitness, recreation, cooking or healthy living programs is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, coaching and communication skills.
- Current First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check.

Pay: $17.20-$23.00 per hour
