Position Summary
The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the daily transportation activities for a busy steel distribution facility. This role ensures customer deliveries are completed safely, efficiently, and on time while maximizing fleet utilization and minimizing transportation costs. The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and preferably experience within the steel industry.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate daily outbound deliveries using company and third-party transportation.
- Schedule and dispatch approximately 15–20 truckloads per day while optimizing routes and delivery schedules.
- Develop detailed loading plans to maximize trailer utilization while ensuring safe weight distribution and load securement.
- Coordinate deliveries of steel sheet, structural steel, pipe, tubing, and related steel products.
- Work closely with warehouse, production, shipping, and sales teams to ensure orders are completed and shipped on time.
- Prioritize urgent customer requests while balancing delivery efficiency.
- Communicate daily with drivers regarding routes, delivery instructions, customer requirements, and schedule changes.
- Monitor truck progress throughout the day and proactively resolve delays, traffic issues, equipment breakdowns, or customer concerns.
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, hours of service, weight restrictions, and company safety policies.
- Coordinate with external carriers and negotiate transportation when required.
- Prepare shipping documentation including bills of lading, packing slips, and delivery paperwork.
- Maintain accurate transportation records and update ERP/WMS systems.
- Analyze freight costs and recommend improvements to routing and delivery efficiency.
- Support inventory movements between company locations when required.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to logistics, freight optimization, and customer service.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of logistics, transportation, or dispatch experience.
- Steel industry experience strongly preferred, particularly with steel sheet, structural steel, pipe, tubing, and related products.
- Experience planning multi-stop deliveries and truck routing.
- Strong understanding of trailer loading, weight distribution, and freight optimization.
- Experience coordinating 15–20 trucks daily in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure while managing changing priorities.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel (sorting, filtering, formulas, pivot tables preferred).
- Experience using ERP systems such as Epicor, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Teams.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a steel service centre or steel distribution environment.
- Knowledge of GTA and Southern Ontario delivery routes.
- Experience working with company-owned fleets and third-party carriers.
- Understanding of Ministry of Transportation (MTO) regulations and load restrictions.
- Experience with KPI reporting, freight analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary: $65,000 - $72,000 per year.

Working Hours:
- Full-time position, Monday to Friday.
- Occasional flexibility may be required to support daily dispatch volume.
