Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Advancement Communications, and embedded in Rotman’s Brand and Communications team, the Development Communications Officer is a creative, strategic, and collaborative storyteller with exceptional writing and editorial skills. The incumbent brings the Rotman community to life through compelling stories that celebrate donor impact, showcase alumni success, highlight transformative initiatives, and inspire philanthropic support. Working closely with colleagues in fundraising, stewardship, alumni engagement, and strategic communications, the Development Communications Officer creates meaningful content that connects audiences to the School's mission and impact.
The Development Communications Officer is responsible for developing high-quality written communications across a variety of platforms and channels in support of advancement initiatives. This includes researching, writing and editing donor and impact reports, fundraising proposals, alumni communications, stewardship materials, advancement articles, donor profiles, impact stories, event communications, campaign messaging, and digital content. The incumbent will develop and execute integrated communication strategies that support major giving campaigns, alumni engagement initiatives, and signature events through effective email marketing, digital storytelling, and social media communications. Working closely with Advancement colleagues, faculty, alumni, donors, and other stakeholders, the Development Communications Officer will translate complex information into engaging content that demonstrate impact, strengthen relationships, and advance the School's strategic priorities.
Your responsibilities will include:
Researching, writing and editing advancement communications including donor impact reports, stewardship reports, fundraising proposals, alumni communications, donor profiles, impact stories, campaign materials, and advancement articles.
Developing compelling content and storytelling for print, digital, email, web, and social media channels.
Developing and executing communication strategies that support fundraising campaigns, alumni engagement initiatives, stewardship, and strategic priorities.
Developing and executing email communicationstrategies and deployments for major alumni events, fundraising campaigns, and stewardship initiatives.
Writing and adapting content for digital communication channels, including websites, email campaigns, newsletters, and social media, ensuring messaging is tailored to each audience and platform.
Providing recommendations on content strategy, messaging, and communication approaches for a variety of advancement initiatives.
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, English or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in advancement communications, marketing, communications, fundraising, public relations, or a related field.
Experience developing and executing integrated communication strategies for fundraising campaigns, alumni engagement initiatives, major events, and stakeholder engagement, including writing and deploying targeted email communications.
Demonstrated experience researching, writing, and editing a broad range of communications for multiple audiences, with exceptional attention to detail and editorial judgment.
Experience writing and editing targeted communications, including writing copy accompanied by graphics and/or videos to support strategic initiatives.
Demonstrated experience developing compelling long-form and short-form storytelling content, including donor and impact reports, alumni communications, stewardship materials, fundraising proposals, newsletters, articles, and digital communications.
Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders to gather information, establish communication objectives, and translate complex information into clear, engaging content.
Experience leveraging with social media platforms including Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, or comparable platforms within a complex organizational work setting.
Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, research, and interviewing skills with the ability to adapt messaging for diverse audiences.
Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
Assets (Nonessential):
Experience producing images, videos, reels, and graphics—including content captured at live events—that are dynamic, engaging, and suitable for social media.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Acrobat), Canva, or comparable design software.
Experience working in a post-secondary, advancement, fundraising, alumni relations, or not-for-profit environment.
