Theatre in Education Instructor
About the Position
The Theatre in Education Instructor will work under the supervision of the Theatre in Education Director and the Artistic Director. They will plan and teach theatre classes for students aged 5 - 18, and act as an ambassador of Magnus Theatre. The successful candidate will be available to teach classes on a Mondays, from 5:30PM – 8:30PM and Saturday mornings, from 9:30AM – 1:30PM, beginning September 7th, 2026.
Responsibilities
- Deliver age-appropriate class content for Magnus Minis (5-8) and Magnus Youth (9-12) programs.
- Design, plan and deliver lessons and content for Collective Creation Project program (13-18).
- Lead class activities and teach new skills.
- Maintain a clean and tidy workspace.
- Assist with the creation and direction of a final showcase for family and friends for Magnus Minis and Magnus Youth.
- Assist in the creation and direction of the final public performances of the Collective Creation Project.
- Engage students and encourage hands-on learning; keep students on task and actively learning.
- Create a nourishing environment that fosters creative learning.
- Ensure health and safety practices are being followed, and that students are supervised at all times.
Qualifications
- Professional and experienced educator, actor, or director.
- Experience working with young people, especially those aged 5 through 12 and 13 through 18.
- Some teaching experience, including ability to learn various types of information and then translate it into teachable material.
- Self-motivated, well-organized, and energetic.
- Ability to maintain a professional and friendly demeanor.
- Knowledge of playwriting and script development is an asset.
- Works well independently.
- The successful candidate must be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Further Information
The successful candidate will work onsite in Thunder Bay, Ontario to grow Magnus Theatre alongside our vibrant, team-oriented staff. Weekend work will be required. Compensation for this position is $18.60 an hour
