We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our faculty as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) Instructor.
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse Instructor will be responsible for delivering high-quality theoretical and practical instruction to students enrolled in the Personal Support Worker (PSW) program. The successful candidate will foster a positive learning environment, evaluate student performance, and ensure graduates are prepared to provide safe, compassionate, and competent care in accordance with Ontario healthcare standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction in accordance with the approved PSW curriculum.
- Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and learning activities that support student success.
- Evaluate student performance through assignments, examinations, practical demonstrations, and clinical assessments.
- Supervise students during laboratory sessions and clinical or practicum placements.
- Teach safe patient care techniques, infection prevention and control, personal care skills, mobility assistance, communication, and professional ethics.
- Monitor student attendance, academic progress, and clinical competencies.
- Provide mentorship, academic support, and constructive feedback to students.
- Maintain accurate academic records, including attendance, grades, and evaluation reports.
- Ensure compliance with Ministry requirements, institutional policies, and applicable healthcare standards.
- Participate in curriculum review, faculty meetings, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with healthcare partners to support clinical placements and student learning.
- Promote professionalism, respect, diversity, and ethical practice within the learning environment.
Qualifications
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent nursing education.
- Minimum three (3) years of recent clinical nursing experience.
- Previous experience teaching adult learners or supervising healthcare students is considered a strong asset.
- Thorough knowledge of Ontario healthcare practices and standards.
- Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and learning management systems.
- Current CPR certification is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in long-term care, community care, rehabilitation, or acute care settings.
- Experience developing curriculum or educational resources.
- Familiarity with competency-based education and adult learning principles.
