The Senior Driving Instructor Contractor – Driver Education is responsible for delivering high-quality Alberta-approved, in-person classroom theory training for Class 5 and Class 7 learners. This role focuses on classroom-based driver education, student knowledge development, engagement, and preparation for safe driving and progression into in-vehicle instruction.
The Senior Driving Instructor Contractor also supports program consistency, mentorship of other instructors, and continuous improvement of driver education classroom delivery.
CORE DUTIES:
- Driver Education Classroom Theory Instruction (Primary Focus)

Deliver in-person classroom theory instruction for Alberta Class 5 and Class 7 driver education programs

Teach approved topics including road laws, traffic signs, defensive driving, hazard recognition, distracted driving, and collision prevention

Create an engaging, structured, and respectful classroom learning environment for students

Use lesson plans, presentations, discussions, activities, and assessments to support learning

Evaluate student knowledge, participation, and readiness for progression

Ensure students understand safe driving practices, defensive driving principles, and road laws
Program Delivery & Compliance
- Ensure classroom theory training complies with Alberta Transportation regulations and program requirements

Accurately complete and submit attendance records, evaluations, and required documentation

Maintain compliance with Ketek policies, procedures, and safety standards

Identify and report any student concerns, incidents, training issues, or course delivery concerns promptly
Senior / Lead Responsibilities
- Act as a senior resource and mentor to other driving instructors as required

Support consistency in classroom instruction methods, assessments, and standards across the program

Assist with onboarding, shadowing, and coaching of new instructors when requested

Provide feedback and recommendations to Training Management on program improvements
Client & Student Support
- Communicate professionally with students, parents/guardians, and external clients

Answer questions related to course structure, expectations, assessments, and progression

Represent Ketek in a positive and professional manner as a contractor at all times
Other Duties
- Maintain classroom materials, training resources, and learning spaces in a clean and organized condition

Successfully complete all required internal safety and compliance training

Submit reports, feedback, and documentation as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Required

Valid Alberta Driver Instructor Licence (Class 5 & 7)

Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence with clean or acceptable abstract

Must be engaged as an independent contractor or eligible to provide services under a contractor agreement

Minimum 2+ years of experience delivering in-person classroom theory instruction or classroom-based driver education

Strong knowledge of Alberta Traffic Safety Act and road regulations

Strong classroom management, presentation, facilitation, and student engagement skills

Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills

Ability to assess student knowledge and provide constructive feedback

High level of professionalism, patience, and safety awareness
Preferred

Senior or lead instructor experience in a driver education program

Experience mentoring or supporting other instructors

Experience delivering in-person, classroom-based driver education theory

Familiarity with digital training records and administrative systems
