Junior Associate

This permanent, full-time Junior Associate role is based in the Medicine Hat office of Smith & Hersey Agribusiness Law LLP. The position offers strong potential for advancement as skills and competency are demonstrated.
The Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented lawyer with 1–2 years of post-qualification experience to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with senior lawyers and partners, gaining hands-on experience and direct client exposure.
· Drafting and reviewing legal documents and agreements for sale agreements, financing, transfers, and general agreements
· Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda
· Work directly with the supervising lawyer and experienced staff member
· Assisting in transactions matters
· Attending client meetings
· Managing files and maintaining client communication
· Prioritize workflow to ensure completion of accurate work within established deadlines
· Handle client correspondence, both incoming and outgoing
Skills and Experience Required
· Qualified lawyer with 1–2 years’ PQE
· Strong academic background
· Excellent drafting and analytical skills
· Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines and short time frames
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills
· Strong organization skills
· Commercially aware and client-focused
· Responds to tasks with little supervision
· Maintains professionalism, confidentiality and discretion
