Position Overview
The Clinical Placement PSW Supervisor is responsible for overseeing students during their clinical placements in healthcare and community care settings. This role ensures that students meet the learning objectives of the Personal Support Worker (PSW) program while maintaining compliance with the standards set by the National Association of Career Colleges and applicable provincial regulations.
The Clinical Placement Supervisor provides guidance, mentorship, and evaluation of students during their practicum placements and ensures that placement experiences meet program requirements and professional expectations.
Responsibilities
Clinical Placement Supervision
- Supervise and support PSW students during their clinical placement in healthcare and community care settings.
- Ensure students demonstrate competencies aligned with the PSW program learning outcomes.
- Observe and evaluate student performance in real workplace environments, ensuring compliance with program standards while providing constructive feedback and guidance on student performance and professional development.
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and constructive feedback to students.
- Address student performance concerns and collaborate with the Program Supervisor to develop improvement plans when necessary.
- Maintain professional communication with placement site supervisors and healthcare staff.
- Ensure students adhere to professional conduct, workplace policies, and ethical standards while on placement.
- Monitor and verify completion of required clinical hours.
Student Evaluation
- Conduct formal evaluations of student performance based on program competencies.
- Document student progress and provide feedback aligned with program evaluation criteria.
- Submit completed evaluation forms and reports according to college procedures.
- Report any incidents, concerns, or placement issues promptly to the Program Supervisor.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, hours, and placement performance.
- Ensure all placement documentation is completed in accordance with college and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in meetings with program staff when required.
- Assist with monitoring compliance with placement standards and learning outcomes.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.
- Participate in professional development and training sessions when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor.
Position Requirements
The following qualifications are the minimum qualifications, and MUST be met for the primary Personal Support Worker Clinical Placement Supervisor:
- Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with current registration and NO practice restrictions with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Must present with a minimum of two (2) years current, relevant work experience in a Canadian clinical environment, preferably in a long-term care/community/chronic care Setting
- Familiarity with Private Career Colleges and dealing with adult students will be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience working with Personal Support Workers or in direct patient/client care environments.
- Meet Instructor qualification standards as outlined in the Regulations to Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005.
- Familiarity with Private Career Colleges and dealing with adult students will be considered an asset.
- Strong communication, mentoring, and organizational skills.
- Clear Criminal Background Check.
Working Conditions:
This is an onsite position. The Long-Term Care (LTC) placement location is currently being finalized and will be within the Toronto region.
The schedule will consist of three days per week, Monday through Friday, with the specific days to be determined. Working hours will be from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The anticipated start date is July 13, 2026.
