Job Overview
The Cook is an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team and is accountable for the provision of optimal resident culinary services and provides our residents with proper nutritional care. The Cook will ensure alignment with all relevant regulations and/or legislative requirements, organizational standards and strategic initiatives while driving a positive work culture. This position works in a manner which aligns with our organizational key behaviours, pillars of success, and vision, mission and values in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for our residents, family members and employees.
Responsibilities
- Promotes a resident-centered care approach that engages residents, family members and employees to provide care that meets the individual needs of each resident.
- Supports with the implementation and maintenance of quality risk management activities to reduce and control potential or actual risks to the safety, security and health of all individuals, and to the safety and security of the long-term care home and conducts audits, as required.
- Promotes and ensures the provision of resident focused care and provides cognitive, emotional, spiritual, cultural, physical and social support to each resident.
- Supports effective and efficient procurement and supply control procedures within the dietary department.
- Participates as a member for assigned committees, as required.
- Assists with meal service, as required, ensuring the individual nutritional needs of all residents are met.
- Completes all documentation related to dietary and maintains accurate records, as required.
- Follows the plan of care, observes and reports any substantial findings and/or changes in a resident's behaviour, physical condition and/or food/fluid intake to the appropriate registered staff member.
- Works in accordance with established job routines and schedules, as required.
- Supports with on-boarding of new hires, students and volunteers, as required.
- Participates in in-services and education sessions, as required.
- Maintains safe food handling practices during production and meal service.
Skills and Qualifications
- A Red Seal designation or culinary management diploma or certificate from an accredited college or university and/or cooking experience and knowledge relevant to the position.
- Completion of Food Handling Certificate.
- Knowledge of culinary equipment and recipes, best practices and procedures.
- Ability to read, write, comprehend and follow instructions in English.
- General knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide and nutritional requirements pertaining to long-term care.
- Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when assisting residents, family members and visitors.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong relationship building abilities are required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Point Click Care and other computerized documentation systems, as required.
- Satisfactory vulnerable sector check and TB test.
- Has a passion to promote person-centered care and work with the senior population.
Pay: $21.75-$24.21 per hour
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Toronto, ON M6S 3A3: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
