About Us

The Research Assistant will support the development and preparation of a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Project Grant application. Working closely with the Principal Investigator, Dr Lewis Williams, the incumbent will contribute to literature reviews, environmental scans, knowledge synthesis, and the preparation of supporting materials required for a competitive grant submission. This role offers an opportunity to gain experience in health research funding processes, interdisciplinary collaboration, and academic research administration.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Conduct literature reviews and summarize findings relevant to the proposed research project.
Assist with the preparation and formatting of grant application components, including background sections, references, and supporting documents.
Support environmental scans and evidence synthesis activities.
Assist with ethics and funding-related documentation, where required.
Organize and maintain project files, records, and reference databases.
Participate in project meetings and prepare meeting notes and action items.
Contribute to knowledge mobilization activities and the preparation of reports or presentations.
Perform other research-related duties as assigned in support of the CIHR application.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, Health Sciences, or a related discipline; additional studies in Social Work or a related field are considered an asset.
Experience supporting academic or community-based research projects.
Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Familiarity with research ethics processes and grant development is an asset.
Strong literature searching, analytical, and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and reference management tools.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Assets

Experience with health, social, or community-based research.
Familiarity with Indigenous research methodologies, OCAP principles, and community engagement practices.
Experience with data management, archival work, or knowledge mobilization.
Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise written materials.
