Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Underground Electrician to join our growing team. This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of electrical systems and equipment in active underground mining operations. The successful candidate will work on construction, maintenance, shutdown, and capital projects while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable legislation, client standards, and company procedures.
The ideal candidate has experience in underground hard rock mining, strong technical knowledge of industrial electrical systems, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, single-line diagrams, schematics, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair underground electrical systems, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Install and terminate power, control, instrumentation, fibre optic, and TECK cables.
- Install conduit, cable tray, supports, grounding systems, junction boxes, lighting, receptacles, and electrical distribution equipment.
- Install, connect, and commission motors, motor control centres (MCCs), transformers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), soft starters, and other industrial electrical equipment.
- Perform electrical testing including insulation resistance (megger), continuity, phase rotation, and verification of electrical installations.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults using test equipment, technical documentation, and diagnostic procedures.
- Perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and verify zero energy before commencing work.
- Assist with commissioning, startup, and system verification activities.
- Complete quality documentation, inspection reports, testing records, and daily field reports.
- Work safely around energized equipment while following company, client, and legislative safety requirements.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
- Participate in Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs), toolbox talks, safety meetings, and hazard reporting.
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, planners, and other trades to safely complete project objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support underground mining operations.
Requirements
- Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a 309A Construction & Maintenance Electrician or 442A Industrial Electrician.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working as an electrician in underground hard rock mining or industrial construction environments.
- Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core certification.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence.
- Current Working at Heights certification.
- Standard First Aid & CPR certification.
- Current WHMIS certification.
- Strong understanding of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and applicable mining regulations.
- Experience installing and maintaining industrial electrical distribution systems, motors, MCCs, VFDs, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, electrical drawings, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency using electrical testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
- Physically capable of working in underground mining environments, including confined spaces, uneven terrain, and varying environmental conditions.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and travel to remote project sites as required.
Pay: $45.00-$60.00 per hour
