Duration of Employment: July 6, 2024 – Aug 28, 2024 (8 weeks)
Hours per week: 35 (7hrs/day), Hours are in the afternoon/evening between 1PM and 9PM Monday through Friday. Some weekends may be required.
Wage: $17.60/hour
Location: Grimsby FORT Location (25 Adelaide St.) or Smithville FORT Location (114 West St.)
The Youth Worker will work under the supervision of the Program Coordinator assisting with planning, facilitating and monitoring daily recreational programming activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of interactive and innovative recreational program planning
- Lead and facilitate daily activities for youth
- Assist with the completion and filing of daily reports and statistical tracking
- Maintain centre
- Promote the FORT within the community
- Attend fundraising and special events as required
- Assist in ensuring that all COVID related procedures are followed, including (but not limited to) enforcing social distancing, sanitizing shared workspaces, and cleaning duties
- Assume other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Enrollment in post-secondary program related to Social Worker, Community Justice, etc. strongly preferred.
- Knowledge in community based programming, social and life skills development for youth preferred
- Enthusiastic, takes initiative and enjoys working with youth
- Solid interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills
- Computer literacy with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Publisher)
- Preference to students enrolled in Child and Youth Worker, Social Service Worker or Recreation and Leisure post-secondary programs
- Preferences for First Aid & CPR Training
- Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle
- Must have current vulnerable sector criminal background check.
Mandatory Requirements as per Canada Summer Jobs Agreement:
- Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of employment
- Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom Refugee Status has been granted/conferred.
- Have a valid SIN.
- International Students, and those who are here in Canada on a work, youth, or visitor visa/permit are not eligible for the program.
