Job Description:
A Brake Press Setup Operator for a retail display manufacturer focuses on high-precision, low-volume to medium-volume bending of thin-gauge sheet metal (aluminum, steel, stainless) to create polished, finished fixtures like shelving, display cases, and signage. The operator is responsible for interpreting blueprints, selecting proper tooling, programming the CNC controller, and performing quality checks to ensure tight tolerances for retail applications.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Set up, program, and operate CNC brake press machines (e.g., Allsteel, Wysong, Finn-Power) for custom metal fabrication
- Read and interpret engineered technical drawings to determine bend sequences, angles, and dimensions
- Choose appropriate punches and dies based on material type, thickness, and desired bend radius
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision tools like calipers, micrometers, and protractors to meet rigid retail finish standards
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tooling, dies, and machine components to ensure optimal performance
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean work area
- Safely move and handle sheet metal, often requiring the ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Requirements:
- 2–3 years of experience in custom sheet metal fabrication
- Strong understanding of CNC controllers and programming
- Exceptional attention to detail to ensure high-quality, cosmetic finishes on retail products
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks
Pay: $22.00-$26.00 per hour
