Parkland Nursery & Landscape Services is a third generation nursery and landscape company that loves to grow. This person will be reporting directly to the Project Manager and is responsible for overseeing and working with their crew on landscape jobs, monitoring and training new and existing workers on your crew. Supervising the safe use of the equipment on site and ensuring staff are following guidelines and protocols
Responsibilities
- Review job and expectations with Project Manager and Client.
- Be able to create a plan to efficiently execute the project start to finish maintaining a high degree of quality.
- Be able to take over a project at any stage of that project.
- While working alongside their crew, ensure the crew is staying highly efficient and producing high quality work.
- Able to operate any equipment needed to complete the project (skidsteer, tractor, various implements, etc).
- Take full accountability for the quality of the workmanship on the project.
- Troubleshoot issues and modify the project (if necessary) with the Project Manager.
- Foresee potential challenges or bottlenecks and provide efficient and creative solutions.
- Conduct daily toolbox meetings.
- Track progress and communicate / update the Project Manager on a regular basis.
- Train and mentor new employees on landscape construction.
- Be able to read plans, read elevations and construct retaining walls and patios, ensure positive drainage on all jobs.
- Be able to complete projects from sub-grade to final inspection.
- Complete required paperwork on a daily basis and hand in to the Project Manager.
- Be committed to our safety program: responsible for helping create a safe work environment as well as the necessary reporting and recording required.
- Willing to assist with any landscape or nursery task.
Skills
- Journeyman ticket
- 3-5 years of experience
- 3 years plus of running crews
- Strong leadership and communication skills being able to give crew members constructive feedback, articulate progress and potential challenges, resolving conflict (within reason) onsite.
- Able to work collaboratively with the Project Manager, clients, other trades, and crew members
- Minimum of a Class 5 with air (prefer class 3) that is clean of demerits
- Comfortable operating: dump trucks, flat decks, pulling trailers, skid steers, excavators, tractors, front end loaders, mowers and other landscaping equipment.
- Strong knowledge and skillset to install hard and softscapes that includes patios, walkways, retaining walls planting, grading and sodding.
- Applicants will be required to supply examples of their previous work and / or e.g. Size of jobs, management experience, photos or addresses of retaining walls and interlocking workmanship, references for grading, soft and hard landscaping and fencing.
- Produce a current clean drivers abstract
- Provide a list of references
- Broad knowledge of prairie hardy plants.
- With the right candidate, this opportunity could transition from full time seasonal to full time year round. This position isn’t for the faint of heart, it does require folks to be physically fit and able to work longer hours during the season (approximately 10-11 hours/day). Must be committed to working in a safe work environment. Workdays are Monday – Friday (some Saturdays required throughout the season- April to usually mid November)
