The Centre for Early Learning and Development, a Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool in Edmonton, AB, is seeking a passionate, nurturing, and creative Educator to join our dedicated team on a full-time basis. Responsibilities & Duties
In this role:
- You see children as capable and love being part of their unique developmental paths and value diversity and equity and are responsive to differences in families’ backgrounds and needs.
- You will engage in hands-on play with children and work with families as an active partner in the educational and developmental growth of children. You will be active in the classroom indoors/outdoors and at events and will create regular and meaningful connections with the families.
- Create a warm, welcoming, and engaging classroom environment. Spend quality time on the floor actively engaging in meaningful play, leading project-based learning and co-learning alongside children in a nurturing, hands-on environment.
- Observe and document children’s learning journey through reflective planning and pedagogical documentation. Create and share children’s explorations, experiences and reflections through visual maps created with children that record their initial questions, existing knowledge, and evolving ideas about a topic, learning stories and individual learning portfolios.
- Support the social, emotional, creative, physical and cognitive growth of each child by building positive relationships and ensuring a safe, stimulating space. Supporting social-emotional development through responsive interactions.
- Collaborating with co-teachers to plan and implement developmentally appropriate, emergent curriculum.
- Communicating regularly with families to build strong partnerships.
- Participating in weekly staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Preparing the classroom before the school year begins and assisting with year-end organization.
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education (or a related human services field).
- Solid background in Flight curriculum, and experience in Reggio Emilia approach and project-based early childhood education.
- Valid Government of Alberta Early Childhood Educator Certification Level III or Level II
- Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C.
- Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (issued within 6 months)
- Clear Child Intervention Record Check
Skills & Experience
- Experience working with young children in an early learning setting.
- Strong familiarity with Flight: Alberta Early Learning and Care Framework and Reggio inspired practice. Passionate and knowledgeable about best practices in early childhood education.
- Excellent human relations skills with families, staff, children and the community at large.
- A relationship builder and enjoy interacting with families and the community.
- Exceptional collaboration, active listening, and communication skills.
