IT Specialist
(Two-year Contract, Full-Time)
Peace Library System (PLS) is seeking a self-motivated IT Specialist to provide technology support at headquarters and member public libraries. The individual must have a strong customer service focus and be able to communicate effectively with library managers in small public libraries. It is based on 37.5 hours per week with an averaging agreement.
PLS is the hub for 46 public libraries and provides a range of technology-based services to support libraries. The PLS network includes a combination of physical and virtual servers, data storage, and cloud services with over 250 workstations across the region.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Act as the main point of contact for the IT help desk
- Manage help desk tickets and escalations
- Maintain detailed technical documentation
- Deploy, maintain, and support hardware and software at headquarters and member libraries
- Manage and troubleshoot workstations
- Troubleshoot eResource and digital issues for library staff and patrons
- Provide basic training for applications and cyber security programs
- Coordinate purchases for PLS headquarters and member public libraries
- Support in troubleshooting the integrated library system (Polaris)
- Aid in SOC investigations
- Assist with maintaining Peace Library System’s network and server infrastructure
Qualifications and Skills:
- Diploma or certification in either Library and Information Technology or Computer Systems Technology, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills with a strong attention to detail
- Able to work independently and as a member of project teams
- Comfortable with hardware, software, and network troubleshooting. Experience with Active Directory, Hyper-V, Microsoft 365 services, Aruba and Fortinet products, printers, and SOC platforms are an asset.
- Candidates must be willing to travel (vehicle provided) and possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Some heavy lifting of equipment may be required
Projected Salary Range: $62,907 to $65,108, along with a 4% vacation payout. This position is not eligible for benefits.
Peace Library System headquarters is located in the City of Grande Prairie, approximately 450 km northwest of Edmonton. With a population of almost 70,000, Grande Prairie is an active, growing community with all services and amenities, situated in the beautiful Peace Country. Peace Library System serves a municipal population of 175,000 and a student population of 11,000 through a network of 46 public and 36 school libraries across northwestern Alberta.
This role will be in-person, with the possibility of a hybrid work from home model within Peace Library System’s geographical area.
