Job Title: Concrete Foreman (Working Foreperson – Bridge Construction)
Job Description
This role leads a small bridge construction crew while actively performing hands-on concrete and heavy civil work. Reporting to the Superintendent, the Working Foreperson oversees daily field operations on bridge projects, ensuring safe execution, crew productivity, high-quality workmanship, and effective short-interval planning. The position coordinates labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractor activities for assigned work areas, maintains compliance with drawings and specifications, and keeps accurate site documentation and communication so work progresses efficiently.
Responsibilities

Lead a bridge construction crew in the field while performing hands-on work to achieve daily production goals.

Plan and assign daily tasks, clearly communicate expectations, and ensure the crew understands the work plan, constraints, and priorities.

Maintain a strong field presence and actively supervise workmanship, safety behaviours, and productivity throughout the shift.

Coach and mentor crew members through clear direction, training, and on-the-job problem-solving.

Ensure all work complies with company safety policies, project safety plans, and applicable legislation.

Lead daily hazard identification, implement appropriate controls before work begins, and reinforce safe work practices.

Conduct and document toolbox talks and safety meetings as required.

Ensure proper personal protective equipment is used, safe work procedures are followed, and equipment and tools are inspected and used correctly.

Support look-ahead planning by identifying upcoming labour, equipment, material, and access needs for assigned work areas.

Drive daily and weekly productivity by managing crew output, minimizing downtime, and maintaining a steady workflow.

Track labour and equipment usage for assigned activities and promptly communicate variances, issues, or delays to the Superintendent.

Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce waste while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Support timekeeping and daily records for crew hours, equipment hours, and key production quantities.

Ensure work is completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, and project quality requirements.

Verify layout, dimensions, elevations, and tolerances for assigned work and escalate discrepancies in a timely manner.

Maintain housekeeping standards in work areas and protect completed work from damage.

Execute and supervise typical bridge construction activities including excavation, formwork, rebar placement, concrete placement, demolition, structural elements, bearings, joints, drainage, and restoration.

Provide clear daily updates to the Superintendent on progress, constraints, safety issues, manpower needs, and any changes to the plan.

Maintain daily documentation such as field notes, photos, delivery tickets, inspection support records, and production tracking.

Communicate professionally with inspectors, consultants, and other on-site stakeholders as directed by supervision.

Adhere to all company policies and procedures at all times.

Perform other related duties as assigned that support safe and efficient project delivery.
Essential Skills

5+ years of bridge or heavy civil construction experience with leadership responsibility in the field.

Proven ability to lead crews, plan daily work, and deliver safe, high-quality results under schedule pressure.

Strong working knowledge of bridge construction methods including formwork, rebar, concrete placement, demolition, structural work, and rehabilitation.

Hands-on experience with concrete work and concrete finishing on bridge or similar projects.

Strong ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and construction procedures.

Demonstrated safety leadership and understanding of high-risk activities including lifting and rigging, work at heights, traffic exposure, and concrete operations.

Proficiency with basic field documentation including daily reports, timekeeping support, production tracking, and photo documentation.

Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills in a field construction environment.

Ability to operate small tools and equipment relevant to bridge and concrete crew work.

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in bridge work for a similar construction company is considered a significant asset.

Gold Seal Foreperson certification or equivalent designation is considered an asset.

Experience in bridge construction, concrete, and general construction activities.

Comfort working within a growing, family-owned organization.

Work Environment
This position is based on day shift and focuses on bridge and similar heavy civil projects. Work takes place outdoors on active construction sites, where you will be exposed to varying weather conditions and typical bridge construction activities such as excavation, formwork, rebar placement, concrete placement, demolition, and structural work. You will work within a solid team culture that emphasizes collaboration, safety, and mutual support. Standard construction personal protective equipment is required at all times, including items such as hard hats, safety footwear, high-visibility clothing, and other PPE appropriate to the tasks being performed.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.50 - $45.50/hr.
