Temporary Part-Time (6 months approximately)
N33 - Nights (11:00pm - 7:00am)
25.50 hours per week, 0.66 FTE, 17 shifts in 5 weeks
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs basic nursing and personal care duties in accordance with Resident Care plans and programs, and established Resident Care policies and procedures.
- Assists with personal grooming activities and dressing/undressing as required by the Care Plan. Provides appropriate skin, nail and foot care. Assists with toileting as required.
- Transfers Residents in accordance with established procedures into and out of the bed, wheelchair and tub.
- Operates mechanical lifts, wheelchairs and therapeutic tubs in accordance with established procedure. Maintains equipment in a sanitary and functional manner.
- Observes and accurately reports changes in Residents’ conditions, behavior and participation in activities to the Case Manager or Staff Nurse Designated in Charge. Accurately charts pertinent information in accordance with established procedures.
- Assists Residents with walking aides/devices and assists Residents in exercising as assigned.
- Answers Residents’ call lights and responds to Residents’ needs in a timely manner.
- Assists in the distribution and collection of food trays.
- Changes soiled linen and makes Residents’ beds. Collects soiled linen and personal laundry and sends to Laundry.
- Maintains bed-side tables, over-bed tables and Residents’ personal belongings in a sanitary, safe and orderly condition.
- Participates in Quality Assurance and Risk Management programs, and all therapeutic programs as assigned or directed.
- Promotes good public relations and maintains appropriate and effective communication with Residents, department staff, other members of the multi-disciplinary health care team, Resident’s families, attending Physicians, volunteers and visitors.
- Maintains confidentiality of Resident and work-related information at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least one year recent experience, as a Health Care Aide in a long-term care setting is preferred.
- A graduate of a recognized Health Care Aide program.
SPECIAL SKILLS:
- An ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) in the English language is required. Knowledge of the Ukrainian or other Slavic languages is an asset.
- Good interpersonal skills with disabled and/or Elderly Residents.
- Must demonstrate respect for the Resident’s independence, dignity and values.
- Must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position on a regular basis.
