Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Lawyer with a keen interest and experience in Canadian and/or U.S. immigration and at least one other area of Canadian law, such as civil litigation, corporate/business law, or family law. This role offers hands-on experience with complex legal matters and opportunities for professional growth within a supportive team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal research, drafting, and client support for Canadian and U.S. immigration applications, including permanent residence, temporary visas, work permits, family sponsorships, waivers, and business immigration matters.
- Prepare submissions and supporting documents for administrative tribunals and Canada and U.S. immigration agencies.
- Advise and represent clients in one or more additional legal areas such as:
- Litigation: civil litigation or administrative hearings.
- Business Law: Support incorporations, shareholder agreements, contracts, and regulatory compliance.
- Family Law: Assist with separation agreements, parenting plans, and divorce proceedings.
- Conduct legal research and stay updated on changes in immigration and relevant Canadian laws.
- Attend client meetings, consultations, and represent the firm in professional settings.
- Collaborate with senior lawyer and legal staff to support firm-wide objectives.
Qualifications:
- Eligible for admission to the Alberta Bar.
- Membership in a U.S. State Bar is required, to support cross-border immigration matters and client representation in U.S.-related filings.
- Experience in Canadian and/or US immigration law and at least one other area of Canadian law (litigation, business law, or family law).
- Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills and client-focused mindset.
- Ability to manage multiple files with attention to detail and deadlines.
- The ideal candidate will possess strong networking skills and the ability to build community relationships to support business development and promote the firm’s services.
- Experience in the use of AI in the legal field is an asset.
- Fluency in a major second language including Arabic, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, Korean, is an asset.
