Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and certified Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team full- time. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of school buses and other fleet vehicles to ensure safe and efficient operation. The mechanic must be safety- focused, organized, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
· Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on school buses and fleet vehicles
· Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, air brake, and engine issues
· Complete government safety inspections and ensure compliance with provincial regulations
· Repair and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, brakes, and HVAC systems
· Conduct routine inspections and document all maintenance and repairs accurately
· Respond to breakdowns and emergency roadside service when required
· Maintain a clean and safe work environment
· Ensure all buses meet safety and operational standards before returning to service
· Operate diagnostic tools and shop equipment safely and effectively
· Work closely with drivers and management regarding vehicle concerns and maintenance scheduling
· Assist in maintaining inventory of parts and shop supplies
Qualifications:
· Certified Heavy Duty Equipment Technician
· Valid driver’s license required; Class 2 license with air brake considered an asset
· Experience working on diesel engines and school buses preferred
· Strong knowledge of air brake systems, electrical systems, and diagnostic software
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
· Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in varying weather conditions
Requirements:
· Ability to pass background checks as required
· Must follow all company safety policies and procedures
· Willingness to work occasional overtime or on-call shifts if needed
