Wachiay Studio is a creative production studio and social enterprise based in the Comox Valley. We collaborate with Indigenous artists, organizations, schools, businesses, and community groups to create apparel, promotional products, art prints, and custom work. Our studio combines creativity, entrepreneurship, cultural expression, education, and skills development.
Position Summary
Wachiay Studio is seeking a skilled and reliable Water Based Screen Printer to join our growing production team on a part time basis. This position is ideal for someone with screen printing experience who enjoys hands on production work, takes pride in quality craftsmanship, and wants to contribute to meaningful community based projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing screens, mixing inks, printing garments and products, maintaining equipment, and ensuring consistent quality throughout the production process.
Key Responsibilities
· Set up and operate manual screen printing equipment
· Print textiles and flatstock with water based inks
· Coat, expose, wash out, and reclaim screens
· Mix inks and colour match when required
· Conduct quality control checks throughout production runs
· Clean and maintain printing equipment and workspaces
· Assist with inventory management and production scheduling
· Support custom orders, artist collaborations, and special projects
· Follow all workplace safety procedures
Qualifications
Required:
· Experience with screen printing in a commercial or production print shop
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
· Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
· Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift production materials
Preferred:
· Knowledge of garment printing techniques and textile applications
· Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator or other design software
· Experience working in Indigenous, arts, or community based organizations
