Springwood Animal Hospital is seeking a confident, passionate, detail oriented Registered Veterinary Technician to join our growing facility. The ideal person works well in a team environment as well as individually. Avimark experience is an asset. Wage determined by experience and proficiency.
We are offering a Full-Time position that requires availability to work days, evenings and some weekends.
Responsibilities/Duties include but not limited to:
- Maintain knowledge of preventative healthcare recommendations in order to answer client questions, provide education on vaccines, flea and heartworm products, and assist in marketing veterinary services from which their pet would benefit, such as dental cleaning
- Calculating drug dosing and maintain inventory of controlled substances.
- Clean, maintain and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials.
- Work well with all team members and ensure that your actions support the practice philosophy.
- Collect specimens and perform routine laboratory procedures and tests in hematology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology
- Dispense and administer medications, vaccines, serums and treatments
- Administer fluids and blood products as prescribed by the veterinarian.
- Provide specialized nursing care for injured or ill animals.
- Take and process radiographs.
- Administer and monitor anesthesia under the direction of a veterinarian.
- Prepare patients, instruments and equipment for surgery.
- Assure that monitoring and support equipment such are in good working condition.
- Assist in diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures using various high-tech diagnostic equipment including electrocardiographic, radiographic and ultrasonographic equipment.
- Helping in the day to day aspects of the veterinary clinic
Qualifications:
- Licensed Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in Ontario
- Experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician preferred, new graduates welcome to apply
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong multitasking and organizational abilities
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Proficient computer skills; Using Excel, Microsoft and Avimark , If no previous Avimark experience training can be provided.
