For this Customs Rater position, our client is a Freight Forwarder located in the St.-Laurent area. This position provides one remote day per week.
*
Responsibilities:
The primary function of this role is to provide customs rating duties that require analysis, detailed knowledge of procedures, and customs regulations. You must be able to perform complex tariff classifications and have knowledge rates memorandums and tariff treatments. You must be able to perform both routine and complex rating releases and classification functions.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Classify import items and notify Customs to determine appropriate import duties.
Contact client for missing documents/information necessary to prepare job file for Customs clearance.
Receive, review, and process import transactions of all modes, including HVS, LVS and the classification and valuation of goods. Arrange delivery, make freight payment and surrender bill of lading in a timely fashion to avoid any storage charges.
Process documents through the Company’s system, and obtain Customs releases and other government agency releases as appropriate.
Review and monitor all Customs rejections, requests for information for clients and any other government agency, and other correspondence.
Adhere to all domestic and international shipping regulations.
Communicate with clients, co-workers, and supervisors in a clear, concise, and timely manner.
Provide excellent and timely customer service, under the limited supervision and advice of the department Manager, proactively inform clients of the status of shipments and refer clients to a higher-level authority when questions are beyond scope of responsibility.
Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of experience working in the customs department
- Bilingual French is an asset
