DESCRIPTION:
Performs assigned electrical, other maintenance and construction duties throughout the hospital facilities, according to policies, procedures, legislated codes and regulations, to support a functional, reliable, safe and comfortable health care environment. Responds to all emergency power outages and incidents. Responds to all fire alarms.
Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston General Hospital strategy. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Performs duties consistent with those of Electrician under the Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act and as pertains to a hospital environment at various sites including Belleville, Picton, Bancroft and support to Perth Smith Falls and Moose Factory. Maintains and repairs building systems as assigned, such as: 3-phase electrical supply and distribution up to 600 volt, emergency power, isolated power, lighting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning except refrigerant systems, automated building systems, computerized tube system, nurse call, communications, fire alarm, patient alarm system, security systems, medical gas systems, intercoms, p.a. system, snowmelting system. Install computer networking cabling.
- Maintains and repairs hospital equipment as assigned such as: autoclaves, operating tables, surgical lights, warming cabinets, incubator cabinets, centrifuges, suction pumps, compressors, orthopedic equipment, clocks, electric beds, appliances and kitchen equipment, food retherm system, automatic doors, loading docks, hydroclave, and carousel. Maintains Laboratory, operating room and CPS equipment such as Washers disinfectors, platelet machines, rotators, sonic washers, glass washers, etc. Performs maintenance and repairs on KGH owned outlying buildings.
- Plans, prepares layouts, reports material and technical needs for own work assignments. Submits for approval, estimates of materials, labor, feasibility of repairs or projects, and purchase requests.
- Interfaces with management and staff throughout the hospital, contractors and suppliers to expedite the resolution and follow-up of facility needs. Performs minor project work, renovations, equipment installation and testing, as required.
- Participates in the preventive maintenance programs, work schedules, and maintains records as required. Performs duties in accordance with health, safety and facilities code legislation.
- Assists other personnel as required or may be called on to do other duties as required by the Maintenance Department.
- Responds to emergency call-ins as required and rotates on shift and on-call schedule.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 diploma (Technical Program).
- Current Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Electrician- Construction and Maintenance. (5 year apprenticeship – 2 year educational component).
- Master Electrician license.
- Minimum of 3- 5 years’ experience in the maintenance and repair of complex building systems, and equipment.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent trouble shooting and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of all codes, blueprints and issued updates.
- Proven ability to attend work regularly.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
