Blue Grass Nursery & Garden Centre is a third-generation family business dating back to 1950’s. Since then, we have grown our business operations to include three cities across Alberta. Those cities being Red Deer, Balzac and Edmonton. What are we hiring for?
Here at Blue Grass Red Deer we are looking for an experienced Landscape Construction Crew Leader for landscape construction installation projects in Red Deer and surrounding areas. This person will work directly with crew labourers on jobsites, delegating tasks and leading by example in order to complete projects on time and in an efficient manner. They will keep close contact with the Landscape Project Manager ensuring proper installation of all aspects included with hardscaping & softscape construction to keep within project budget without compromising quality.
Required:
- Experience supervising a crew of 3-5
- Current class 5 Drivers License with clean abstract and a vehicle to get themselves to work. Class 3 or Class 1 would be an asset
- Able to drive a 5 or 10 ton crew truck with trailer
- Landscape construction experience - commercial and/or residential settings (hardscape & Softscape.)
- Excellent with skid steer operation
Experience with all aspects of landscape installations:
- Layout and rough/pre-grade grade (using zip/laser levels)
- Soil installation, site prep and fine grading
- Seeding and sodding
- rock and/or mulch beds - edging, fabric and ground covers
- Shrub and tree planting
- Experience with hardscaping, brick, and concrete pavers considered an asset; Retaining walls (Allan Block, Wood, boulder and rock walls)
- Irrigation experience is also an asset
- Must be able to read site plans and blueprints
- Operator experience with skid steers and excavators is required;. Must be able to operate the equipment at a highly experienced level and be able to pre-grade and fine grade topsoil, clay and or gravels.
- Must be safety conscious and able to meet tight deadlines
We offer full-time employment for those candidates who have and demonstrate the above mentioned attributes throughout their seasonal employment. Individuals selected for year-round full-time employment may be offered additional training such as (Class 3 or 1 drivers training, paid or subsidized education in a field of study related to the horticultural industry).
