Lotus Group is proud to partner with a respected and Alberta based growing organization as they search for a Corporate Controller to provide financial leadership across a multi-location operation in Western Canada. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this individual will oversee corporate accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and strategic financial initiatives while leading a high-performing accounting team.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative and results-oriented finance leader who combines strong technical accounting expertise with exceptional business acumen. This individual will be responsible for ensuring financial integrity, driving process improvements, supporting operational decision-making, and building scalable financial processes that enable continued organizational growth.
Role ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & Reporting
- Lead the preparation and delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and executive management reporting.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS and all internal financial reporting standards.
- Analyze financial performance, identify trends and variances, and provide meaningful recommendations to senior leadership.
- Deliver accurate financial reporting that supports strategic business decisions.
- Partner with executive leadership to improve financial visibility across the organization.
Accounting Operations
- Provide leadership and oversight for all day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, inventory, and fixed assets.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.
- Maintain standardized accounting policies and procedures across multiple operating locations.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through process improvements, automation, and system enhancements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen operational effectiveness.
Financial Controls, Compliance & Risk Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls and financial governance practices.
- Ensure compliance with provincial, federal, tax, audit, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate external financial statement audits and internal audit activities.
- Manage corporate risk by strengthening financial processes and maintaining audit readiness.
- Ensure accurate documentation and regulatory compliance across all accounting functions.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a collaborative accounting team focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Build a culture of ownership, transparency, and high performance.
- Provide coaching, performance management, and professional development opportunities.
- Foster collaboration between Accounting, Operations, HR, Payroll, and executive leadership teams.
- Ensure workloads, priorities, and resources are effectively managed across the department.
Strategic Finance & Business Partnership
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to senior leadership.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and long-term business planning.
- Evaluate financial implications of strategic initiatives and organizational investments.
- Develop dashboards and financial reporting tools that improve decision-making.
- Provide meaningful financial insight to operational leaders to improve profitability and business performance.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Lead initiatives that improve financial systems, reporting capabilities, and accounting workflows.
- Identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiencies across the finance function.
- Maintain relationships with banking, insurance, and other key financial partners.
- Evaluate existing business processes and implement best practices that reduce risk and improve productivity.
- Support technology initiatives that strengthen reporting accuracy and scalability.
International Finance Support
- Provide financial oversight and support for Canadian and U.S. operations.
- Assist international business units with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance requirements.
- Ensure alignment between corporate financial standards and international operations.
- Support organizational growth through scalable financial processes and consistent governance.
Qualifications & Experience
- CPA designation required.
- Post secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting leadership experience.
- Experience overseeing multi-location accounting operations.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit processes.
- Experience leading month-end and year-end close processes.
- Strong analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Multi-location accounting experience.
- Experience supporting Canadian and U.S. operations.
- Experience leading finance transformation or process improvement initiatives.
- Strong understanding of financial systems implementation and automation.
- Experience managing external audit relationships and regulatory compliance.
