In this role, you will be critical in augmenting our automated SMT and through-hole processes, executing complex hand-soldering, touch-ups, and intricate reworks. If you have a steady hand, a sharp eye for detail, and a deep respect for electronics manufacturing quality standards, you will be a vital asset to our assembly team.

Core Accountabilities
- Precision Craftsmanship: Execute precision hand soldering of electronic assemblies to augment and complete automated assembly processes.
- Standard Compliance: Maintain active certification to the IPC-A-610 workmanship standard.
- Quality Champion: Demonstrate a clear, practical, and working understanding of IPC-A-610 standards, applying them rigorously to every board that crosses your workbench.
Key Responsibilities
- Component Soldering: Perform intricate hand soldering of electronic component parts, including micro-components as small as 0201 or 0.5mm pitch.
- Microscopic Precision: Comfortably and consistently work under optical or digital microscopes for extended periods.
- Mechanical Assembly: Employ various hand tools on printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA) for tasks including soldering, depanelization, conformal coating, labeling, and other light mechanical assembly duties.
- In-Process Quality Control: Inspect all in-process electronic assemblies from prior manufacturing stages for IPC-A-610 compliance before proceeding with your own work.
- Rework & Touch-Up: Perform high-quality touch-ups, modifications, or reworks on soldering defects identified by AOI or quality inspectors.
- Cross-Functional Support: Step in to support other assembly teams as needed with general hand assembly work or dedicated QC inspection tasks.
Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate in electronics manufacturing is highly preferred.
- Current or recent certification in IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) and ideally J-STD-001 (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies).
Technical Experience:
- Minimum of 2+ years of dedicated hand soldering experience in an EMS or high-tech manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience with lead-free (RoHS) soldering processes, understanding the distinct thermal requirements and flux chemistries.
- Strong ability to read, interpret, and follow complex engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Thorough understanding of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) safety protocols and safe handling of moisture-sensitive devices.
Skills & Abilities:
- Exceptional fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
- High attention to detail with a commitment to doing it right the first time.
- Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks with unwavering accuracy.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Success
- First Pass Yield (FPY):Achieving a >99% First Pass Yield on all personal hand-soldered components passing through final quality inspection.
- Rework Effectiveness: 99% success rate on assigned rework/touch-up tasks without causing secondary thermal damage to the PCB or adjacent components.
- Defect Detection: Number of upstream defects (from SMT or wave processes) accurately identified and flagged during your in-process inspection before adding value to the board.
- Standard Adherence: Zero non-conformances related to ESD protocols, workstation 5S organization, or tool maintenance.
