Work Location Note: This is a site-based, camp role requiring full participation in a rotational schedule and compliance with all site safety and operational requirements.
Position Overview
1911 Gold Corporation is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Equipment Operator to support mill and crushing operations at the True North Mine. Reporting to the Mill Operations Supervisor, this position is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment, maintaining a steady supply of ore to the crushing plant, and supporting general site cleanup and material movement activities.
The successful candidate will operate equipment such as loaders, skid steers, telehandlers, forklifts, excavators, and dozers. This role requires strong situational awareness, effective communication, and a commitment to equipment care, workplace safety, and reliable mill operations.
Key Responsibilities
Heavy Equipment Operations
- Safely operate heavy equipment, including:
- 980 loaders
- Skid steers
- Telehandlers
- Forklifts
- Excavators
- Dozers
- Feed the crushing plant and ensure a consistent supply of ore material is maintained. Perform general site cleanup and material-handling activities using heavy equipment.
- Operate equipment in a manner that minimizes unnecessary wear, damage, and premature breakdowns.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections, pre-trip inspections, and operational checks.
- Communicate maintenance concerns and equipment conditions to the mechanical maintenance team.
- Support preventative maintenance activities and scheduled equipment servicing.
Crushing Plant Support
- Become familiar with all regulations, policies, practices, and procedures applicable to the crushing circuit.
- Understand and follow crushing plant start-up, shutdown, and emergency procedures.
- Monitor conveyor tracking and inspect the condition of belts, rollers, idlers, and bearings.
- Identify and report unusual equipment temperatures, vibrations, noises, odours, or other operating concerns.
- Support safe and efficient operations within the crushing plant and surrounding material-handling areas.
- Maintain effective communication with the incoming and outgoing shifts.
Areas of Responsibility
The Equipment Operator may be assigned responsibilities within the following areas:
- Crusher Building
- Run-of-Mine Pad
- Ore Tent
- Waste Skip
- Other mill and site operating areas as assigned
Safety & Compliance
- Inspect work areas for potential hazards and promptly report or address safety concerns.
- Follow all company safety policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and site requirements.
- Apply lockout/tagout and confined-space entry procedures when required.
- Operate all equipment safely and in accordance with manufacturer and site requirements.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment and comply with site-specific safety expectations.
- Follow site rules regarding the use of personal electronic devices in operational work areas.
Required Experience & Skill Set
- Minimum of 4,000 hours of operating experience on heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, dozers, graders, backhoes, skid steers, or telehandlers.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to safely operate heavy equipment in an industrial, mining, construction, or similar environment.
- Strong awareness of workplace hazards and safe operating practices.
- Ability to identify basic mechanical or operational equipment concerns.
- Effective verbal communication skills and the ability to complete shift handovers.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an operations team.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive attitude.
- Physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
Job Conditions & Work Environment
This position is based in an active industrial mining environment and requires working in and around heavy mobile equipment, crushing equipment, conveyors, and processing infrastructure. Working conditions include:
- Exposure to heat, dust, noise, and extreme or changing weather conditions.
- Physically demanding work involving regular walking, climbing, standing, and equipment operation.
- Required use of personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety boots, rubber boots, hard hats, gloves, and other site-specific protective equipment.
- Loose-fitting clothing and jewellery are not permitted in operational work areas.
- Personal cellphones are not permitted in work areas and must be stored in designated locations during working hours.
- Willingness to work a rotational schedule, including evenings, weekends, and other shifts as required.
