Video Editor
The Hockey Shop Source for Sports | Full-Time | On-Site (Langley, BC)
$28-$32/hour | 40 hours/week
About Us
The Hockey Shop opened its doors in Surrey, BC in 1988 as a family-owned mom-and-pop pro shop. Nearly four decades later, we've grown into an international hockey superstore - now home to 34,000 sq. ft. of hockey heaven in Langley - shipping gear to players on every continent since launching thehockeyshop.com in 1996. Through all that growth, we've stayed true to our roots: hockey people helping hockey people.
About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Video Editor who thrives at creating high-performing social content. Your primary focus will be post-production - taking raw footage from product reviews, equipment breakdowns, in-store events, and social content shoots and turning it into polished, engaging videos for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and beyond.
You'll work closely with our content team, editing everything from long-form YouTube reviews to fast-paced short-form clips and ad creative. You'll own the post-production workflow end to end and help shape the look, pacing, and quality standard of our video content. While editing is the bulk of the role, you may occasionally be asked to help with filming - setting up shots, running a camera, or capturing content on the store floor.
If you live in the timeline, understand hooks and retention, and can match your editing style to the platform, we want to hear from you.
You won't be starting from zero. Across our main @thehockeyshop and goalie-focused @thsgoal accounts, your edits will reach an established audience of 210k+ followers on TikTok, 117k+ YouTube subscribers, and 104k+ followers on Instagram - with plenty of room to grow.
You'll have your own dedicated desk and editing workstation, and you'll report to our E-Commerce Manager while collaborating daily with the social team on content priorities and deadlines.
What You'll Work With
You won't be editing on a shoestring. Our on-site content setup includes:
- A dedicated editing workstation and desk
- Paid subscriptions for the software you need - editing, design, and scheduling tools
- A dedicated photo studio with a variety of backdrops and props
- Dedicated video and photography cameras with a range of lenses
- A DJI Osmo Pocket for run-and-gun and on-the-floor content
- Managing wireless lavalier mics and audio
What You'll Do
Video Editing (Primary Focus)
- Edit long-form YouTube videos: product reviews, equipment breakdowns, comparisons, and tutorials
- Cut short-form content for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts, repurposing long-form footage where possible
- Edit video ad creative for paid social campaigns across Meta, TikTok, and YouTube
- Edit in Adobe Premiere Pro and CapCut, choosing the right tool for the format and turnaround
- Review footage, select strong moments, and structure narratives that maximize engagement and retention
- Own full post-production: cutting, pacing, color correction and grading, audio editing and synchronization, music, captions, and export
- Create motion graphics, animated assets, typography treatments, and overlays that enhance storytelling
- Design supporting graphic assets including thumbnails and title cards that drive clicks and views
- Maintain brand consistency while adapting creative to platform-specific best practices
- Build and maintain efficient post-production workflows: project file organization, footage library, templates, and export presets
Collaboration with the Social Team
- Work with the content team to plan edits around the content calendar and publishing schedule
- Incorporate feedback efficiently while managing multiple projects and deadlines
- Participate in creative brainstorming and contribute new ideas, editing techniques, and visual approaches
- Help establish editing standards and share techniques that raise the quality of our video content
- Stay current with trends in social media, short-form video, motion design, and editing styles
Filming Support (Occasional)
- Assist with filming product demos, reviews, and in-store events when needed
- Help with shoot setup: cameras, lighting, and audio
- Capture supplemental b-roll on the store floor to strengthen your edits
What We're Looking For
- 3-5 years of professional video editing experience (in-house, agency, freelance, or a strong channel with a proven track record)
- A strong portfolio or reel showcasing long-form, short-form, and motion design work. A portfolio is required to be considered.
- Expert proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro; experience with CapCut for short-form content
- Motion graphics skills (After Effects or Premiere-native)
- Strong understanding of storytelling, pacing, hooks, and retention-focused editing techniques
- Proven experience with audio editing and synchronization, color correction and grading, and captioning
- Understanding of platform-specific creative best practices across YouTube, Meta, and TikTok
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to receive and implement feedback while maintaining a positive, collaborative attitude
- Strong communication skills and a professional, team-first attitude
Bonus Points For
- Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Figma to support graphic asset creation
- Experience creating content for social media advertising and direct-response marketing
- Familiarity with tools like Canva, Meta Business Suite, and Notion
- Familiarity with AI-powered creative and video production tools, and comfort exploring AI-driven workflows that improve production efficiency
- Basic camera and lighting knowledge
- Knowledge of hockey and hockey equipment (a major asset but not required)
What a High Performer Looks Like
Skills get you in the door - these habits are what set our best people apart:
- Organized - You juggle multiple edits, revisions, and deadlines across platforms without letting things slip through the cracks
- Adaptable - Retail moves fast and algorithms move faster. You pivot when a trend hits, a priority shifts, or the plan changes mid-day
- Detail-oriented - You catch the typo in the caption, the audio sync issue, and the export error before the video goes live
- Always learning - You're curious about new formats, editing techniques, and tools, and you treat feedback as fuel rather than criticism
- A team player - You work hand-in-hand with the social team, store staff, and management, and you make the people around you better
Schedule & Location
- Full-time, 40 hours/week, on-site at our Langley retail store
- Flexibility required, including occasional evenings and weekend shifts for event coverage based on content needs
