Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Industrial Spray Painter to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and coating fabricated steel products while consistently meeting our quality, safety and production standards.
This position is best suited to someone who has hands-on experience in an industrial manufacturing or fabrication environment and takes pride in producing a clean, professional finish.
Responsibilities
- Prepare fabricated steel products for painting, including cleaning, masking, sanding and surface preparation
- Mix paints, primers, thinners and other coating products according to manufacturer specifications
- Apply industrial primers and finish coatings using airless spray equipment and pressure-pot systems
- Adjust spray equipment and application techniques to achieve the required finish and coating thickness
- Inspect completed work for coverage, runs, dry spray, overspray and other finish defects
- Perform touch-ups and correct coating deficiencies when required
- Measure and verify wet-film or dry-film thickness when applicable
- Clean and maintain spray guns, pumps, pressure pots, hoses and paint-area equipment
- Maintain an organized and safe paint booth and work area
- Follow company health and safety procedures, including proper use of respiratory protection and other PPE
- Coordinate with fabrication, quality control and production staff to meet job requirements and delivery schedules
Qualifications
- Previous experience as an industrial spray painter is required
- Experience using airless spray equipment and pressure-pot systems
- Ability to independently mix and prepare industrial coatings
- Knowledge of surface preparation and proper coating application techniques
- Ability to read and follow paint specifications, technical data sheets and job instructions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work
- Ability to identify and correct common paint defects
- Comfortable working around large fabricated steel products and material-handling equipment
- Dependable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a production team
- Ability to lift and handle paint equipment, hoses and materials as required
Preferred Experience
- Three or more years of industrial spray-painting experience
- Experience painting fabricated steel, pressure vessels, piping, tanks or similar industrial equipment
- Experience applying epoxy primers, urethanes or other two-component industrial coatings
- Experience checking and documenting coating thickness
- Forklift or overhead-crane experience is an asset
