Overview
The Wellness Coordinator reports to the Education Director and works collaboratively with the Academic Manager and Residence Manager of the Independent First Nations Alliance (IFNA) Secondary Student Support Program. The Wellness Coordinator will be responsible for the success of the Wellness Department, focusing on promoting healthy living choices, coping strategies, positive activity programming, and the overall mental and physical health of the students. The Wellness Coordinator is also responsible for overseeing afterhours on-call workers, managing scheduling and providing direction to on-call staff, and providing daily supervision of all wellness staff.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the case management of all students and develop care plans that prioritize the well-being of the youth/students.
- Applies client-centered practice expectations into programs and care plans.
- Participates in weekly meetings with other student departments under IFNA.
- Develops a strong rapport with students in the education program.
- Schedules adequate staff coverage for morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts.
- Provides leadership and direction to the Secondary Wellness Support Program.
- Creates opportunities for staff to work collaboratively in program delivery using communication and workflow systems.
- Holds team accountable for work plan, strategic priorities, goals, and performance expectations.
- Provides supervisory services, including mentorship and debriefing support, to IFNA well-being, mental health support workers, on-call workers, and other related staff as necessary.
- Oversees afterhours on-call workers, ensuring adequate coverage and support for students outside of regular operating hours.
- Manages the on-call worker schedule and provides clear direction and instructions to on-call staff.
- Provides daily supervision of all wellness staff
- Assists with program planning, budget preparation, expenditure approvals, and monitoring of Wellness activities.
- Leads and provides crisis Intervention programs
- Develops and implements community presentations and programs as part of the wellness portion of the Home Away program.
- Provides ongoing training to staff on routine practices and special functions
- Creates collaborative relationships with community partners to maintain and strengthen programs, initiatives, and projects.
- Creates opportunities to research and apply changes in the practice setting that improve the practice.
- Develops and updates program curriculum and tools for wellness programs.
- Represents the organization at meetings and conferences as necessary.
- Prepares monthly reports for the Education Safety Officer, including key performance indicators.
- Builds and strengthens relationships with community members by liaising with parents, education authority staff, and community leadership under the direction of the Education Director.
- Adheres to privacy and confidentiality regulations.
Position Requirements:
- University Degree in Social Services, Psychology, or human services field preferred. e.g., Registered Social Worker, Registered Psychotherapist). Will consider Post Secondary Diploma and experience.
- Registered and in good standing with Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or other regulatory body.
- ASIST; Mental Health First Aid, Standard First Aid certifications or willing to obtain
- 3 years’ experience working within a similar environment with 2 years in a similar supervisory or coordination role.
- Class G Driver’s license with a clear driver’s abstract.
- Ability to maintain a clear Criminal Reference Check including a Vulnerable Sector search.
- Familiar with and experience working with Mental Health issues and addictions.
- Proficiency in program planning, budgeting, and report writing.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of child development, theory, and practice.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Understanding of Indigenous history, traditions, and beliefs with the ability to implement cultural values and practices within the delivery of services; Ability to speak Ojibwe or Oji-cree is an asset.
- Familiarity of Indigenous communities and organizations; experience working for an Indigenous organization.

Salary Range: $83,208-$109,180
