Summary:
The Program Assistant for Summer Camp and Youth Programs creates a fun and engaging Summer Camp experience for youth who are having difficulties coping because of social, emotional, physical, or mental developmental delays. The position also includes program planning for the camp and attending youth outreach shifts with a Youth Worker.
The Program Assistant for Summer Camp and Youth Programs reports to the Youth Services Lead.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensures a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for youth providing age-appropriate activities with adaptations as needed.
- Promotes behavioural change and personal growth of youth.

Supports youth to achieve success using a strength-based approach.
- Organizes and leads activities with youth including arts and crafts, drama, cooperative games, and sports activities.
- Assists the Youth and Child Worker’s in supervising youth and maintaining their safety while on community outings.
- Designs, implements and evaluates interventions to assist the youth.

Designs and implements programming for youth groups.

Complete youth outreach shifts with a youth worker to support youth on the coast using a harm reduction approach.

Ensures effective service delivery consistent with agency mandate, policy, meeting all legal, contractual, financial and other compliance requirements.
- Assists with other duties as required, from time to time, aiding with the efficient operation of the organization.

Participates and contributes to daily staff preparation and debrief meetings.

Represents SCCSS in a positive and professional manner.
- Supports the mission, vision and values of SCCSS.
Qualifications:

Grade 12 education is required with a preference for the incumbent to be enrolled in an Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Child and Youth or Human Development related program.
- Between the ages of 15 to 30 years.
- Additional education or training re: special needs, child and youth care

Respect for diversity (including race, culture, class, gender, etc.).
- Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds an asset.
- Current First Aid Certificate an asset. May be required training upon employment for a successful candidate without certification.

Successful results of criminal records check.
Working Conditions
This position works both indoors and with some community outings to various locations. It also includes being out in the community in places where youth gather such as the beach, parks, etc.
