Your Opportunity:
The Health Care Aide position will be based out of the Enhanced Care Unit, Type A Continuing Care Home; however, it may involve working on all units at Mackenzie Place when required. Residents may exhibit challenging, unpredictable responsive behaviors, which require enhanced staffing expertise to provide care and oversight. Reporting to the Care Manager, you will work under the supervision of a regulated health professional while delivering healthcare services. You will be responsible for providing care within the boundaries of your competency and education and follow care plans using your knowledge, skills and abilities to provide safe and competent care. While providing care to residents in the Enhanced Care Unit, you must be astute in their level of observation, identify and report subtle changes in resident behaviours and implement strategies to mitigate potential escalation of responsive behaviours. We embrace the philosophy of person and family-centred care and recognize that each client and family member have unique values, personal history and an equal right to dignity, respect, and to participate fully in their environment. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.
