Position Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Lead Die Cutter Operator to join the production team. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on die cutting experience in a corrugated packaging environment, particularly with equipment such as RDC die cutters, McKinley, Ward, or similar rotary die cutting machinery with 2-colour printing capabilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring die cutting equipment while ensuring product quality, production efficiency, and safety standards are consistently met. This is a lead machinist role suited for someone who can take ownership of the machine, troubleshoot production issues, and support the team on the floor.
Key Responsibilities
Set up, operate, and monitor rotary die cutting equipment, including 2-colour printing functions. Review job tickets, work orders, die layouts, print requirements, and production specifications. Install and adjust cutting dies, printing plates, ink, tooling, and related machine components. Ensure accurate cutting, creasing, printing, stripping, and stacking of corrugated products. Monitor machine performance throughout production runs and make adjustments as required. Perform regular quality checks to ensure finished products meet customer specifications. Troubleshoot machine issues, registration concerns, print defects, die cutting problems, and material flow issues. Lead by example and support machine crew members during setup, production, changeovers, and cleanup. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. Follow all company safety procedures, production standards, and lockout/tagout requirements. Communicate downtime, quality concerns, material issues, or maintenance needs to supervisors. Assist with basic machine maintenance and preventative maintenance activities.
Qualifications
2–5 years of experience operating die cutting equipment in a corrugated packaging or related manufacturing environment. Experience with RDC, Ward, McKinley, or similar rotary die cutting equipment is a strong asset. Experience with 2-colour printing is considered an asset. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot machine issues. Ability to read work orders, production specifications, measurements, and layouts accurately. Previous lead hand, senior operator, or lead machinist experience is an asset. Strong attention to detail, quality, production efficiency, and safety. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Comfortable working either day shift or afternoon shift.
Pay: $30.00-$38.00 per hour
