Position Summary
The Junior Mechanical Designer is responsible for product engineering. The Designer supports the company's Quality Policy of “Building products the way the customer wants it and building it right the first time!” by ensuring customer requirements are engineered into the shop drawings and specifications.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop robust and cost-effective products that meet or exceed customer expectations
· Produce customer approval and detailed shop drawings using 3D CAD (SolidWorks)
· Liaise with internal departments and outside suppliers to ensure smooth product implementation
· Provide technical support to manufacturing personnel
· Process new job order requests accurately and efficiently to meet promised delivery dates
· Coordinate, direct and mentor junior designers
· Assist the Quality department with internal/external non-conformance investigations
· Develop and maintain engineering documentation of all pertinent design activities
· Improve design team efficiency by reviewing/approving detail drawings to ensure they conform to customer specifications and corporate design standards
· Establish and maintain a complete library of standard product components to effectively reduce the Engineering cycle time
· Work within all Health and Safety policies and procedures
· Participate in ISO internal auditing activities
· Assist with other duties as assigned by the Operations team
Qualifications
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
· Thorough understanding of SolidWorks 3D CAD, AutoCAD 2D CAD or equivalent
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Exceptional team building and conflict-resolution abilities
· Experience in problem-solving and lean manufacturing concepts
· Willingness to develop and learn new approaches, tools and techniques
· Strong mechanical aptitude, especially in metal fabrication
· Detailed knowledge of the ISO 9001 quality management system would be beneficial
· Previous experience operating CNC or production machinery in a manufacturing environment.
· Completion of a two- or three-year college program in mechanical engineering technology is usually required for mechanical engineering technologists.
Pay: From $54,000.00 per year
