Position Title: Marine Outboard Mechanic
Department: Service / Marine Repair
Reports To: Service Manager or Shop Foreman
Job Summary
A Marine Outboard Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining outboard boat motors and related marine systems. The mechanic ensures engines and vessels operate safely and efficiently by performing inspections, routine maintenance, and mechanical repairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and fuel system issues in outboard motors.
- Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, lower unit service, impeller replacement, and tune-ups.
- Repair or replace engine components including fuel systems, ignition systems, and cooling systems.
- Install and rig new outboard motors and marine accessories.
- Conduct engine performance testing and troubleshooting.
- Inspect boats and engines to ensure safe operation.
- Maintain service records and complete repair documentation.
- Communicate repair needs and cost estimates to service advisors or customers.
- Follow safety standards and manufacturer repair procedures.
- Keep the shop clean and maintain tools and equipment.
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience working with outboard motors (e.g., Mercury Marine, Yamaha Outboards, Honda Marine, Suzuki Marine).
- Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills.
- Knowledge of marine electrical and fuel systems.
- Ability to read service manuals and wiring diagrams.
- Experience with diagnostic software and tools.
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
Education and Experience
- Marine mechanic certification or equivalent experience preferred.
- 2–5 years experience working on marine engines (preferred).
- Small engine or marine technician training considered an asset.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift heavy components (50 lbs or more).
- Work in shop and outdoor marine environments.
- Stand, bend, and work in confined engine compartments.

Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
