Practice medicine your way—with a team that has your back.
At WestVets Animal Hospital, we’re looking for an Associate Veterinarian who wants to practice great medicine without being put into a box.
We’re an independently owned small animal hospital in Lethbridge, and one of the things that matters most to us is giving our veterinarians the freedom to practice medicine in the way that works best for them. We have standards for patient care, but we don’t believe every veterinarian needs to practice exactly the same way. Your clinical judgment, experience, and preferences matter.
If you have a medication you prefer, a piece of equipment you find useful, a different approach to a case, or a way of doing things that works better for you and your patients, we’re willing to have the conversation and make it work whenever we can. We want you to be comfortable practicing the kind of medicine you believe in.
Why WestVets?
- Autonomy in your practice. You have the freedom to make your own medical decisions and develop your own approach to cases. We’re here to collaborate when you want another opinion—not to micromanage how you practice.
- A team that lets you be a veterinarian. Our RVTs and TAs are skilled, efficient, and trusted to handle the things they can, so you can spend your time where it matters most.
- We listen to our veterinarians. If there’s a medication, tool, piece of equipment, or workflow that would make your practice better, we’re open to it.
- A steady surgical and dental caseload with opportunities to build confidence and expand your skills.
- The chance to build your own client base and develop long-term relationships with your patients and their families.
- A modern, independently owned hospital with up-to-date equipment and thoughtfully designed spaces.
- A dedicated workspace when you need somewhere quiet to work on records, make calls, or think through a case.
- Mentorship is available when you want it. New graduates and veterinarians developing new skills will have experienced colleagues around to ask questions and bounce cases off, without having someone looking over your shoulder all day.
We also believe in protecting our team.
Being a veterinarian means dealing with difficult situations and, occasionally, difficult people. What it doesn't mean is having to tolerate abuse.
At WestVets, we expect our clients to treat our team with respect. If a client becomes abusive, threatening, or consistently disrespectful, we will step in and support our staff rather than expecting them to simply put up with it. We believe our team deserves the same respect we expect them to show our clients.
Compensation & Benefits
We recognize that different veterinarians value different things, so we’re open to discussing a compensation structure that makes sense for you.
We offer:
- Competitive and flexible compensation with earning potential based on experience and production
- Comprehensive benefits package
- Continuing Education allowance
- ABVMA/CVMA licensing and professional dues
- Scrub allowance
- Paid vacation
- Professional development support
- Relocation assistance can be discussed for the right candidate
- Something else that interests you? Let us know!
For someone looking to put down roots, there is also potential to grow beyond an associate role. For the right person who shares our values and vision, we’re open to discussing a partnership pathway and eventual ownership.
A schedule that leaves room for a life outside of work
We don’t believe being a good veterinarian should require sacrificing everything outside the clinic.
- No evenings
- No weekends
- No on-call
When you’re done for the day, you’re done.
We’re also flexible when it comes to scheduling. If a four-day work week, adjusted hours, or another schedule would work better for you, let’s talk about it. We’d rather find a schedule that works well for both you and the clinic than force everyone into the same mould.
Who will fit in at WestVets?
You’ll probably enjoy working here if you:
- Care about doing good medicine and doing right by your patients.
- Want the freedom to use your own clinical judgment.
- Like having a capable team around you but don’t need someone constantly checking in on you.
- Enjoy getting to know your clients and building relationships over time.
- Appreciate a workplace where people can work hard, laugh, and still enjoy being around each other.
- Want to be part of an independently owned practice where your opinions are heard and actually matter.
Whether you’re a new graduate or an experienced veterinarian, we’re more interested in finding the right person than checking every box on a resume.
If you want a modern practice where you can practice medicine your way, have a team that has your back, be treated with respect, and still have a life outside of work, we’d love to hear from you.
Please send your resume and a brief cover letter telling us a little about yourself, your experience, and what you’re looking for in your next practice.
